STING RAY KILLS STEVE IRWIN

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Any thoughts on what kind of Impact this incident will have on Stingrays in the home Aquarium? I heard a reporter on MSNBC talking about how 'Even some people keep these as pets in the home Aquarium..'

More Legality Issues? Illegal to Import into the US, seen as a dangerous animal (like Snakeheads)..?

More Demand due to the 'fear factor' involved, raising cliche popularity like Pirhanas..?

thats a good point! i have thought of this myself!

RIP Steve...

IT is a huge loss to everyone! We all will miss our hero Steve. I hope that the shirts do the research on wether or not rays in the aquarium are, yes dangerous, but also not as leathel as when you are swimming over them. I really hope this doesn't effect the trade on rays. Atleast in a negitive way.
It just shows that we ALL have to becareful when you are anywhere. Know your enviroment and keep your eyes open when exploring.

I thought of this as well. I did see on CNN earlier an interview with a producer of Croc Hunter I believe, a statement made that there were only a handful of deaths in history from stingrays who are normally docile.

another good point, with the number's being so low i cannot see how it would effect it. but only make people want to collect them for the fear factor, but i'm sorry but i cannot see how one could compare a Motoro with a Bull ray. BIG difference. and yes i mean BIG

on a side note, DC i seen in one of your posts you sold your leo's.. man-o-man i would of loved to have them in my tank!

I think that we must be careful with nature. He died doing what he loved, but i'm sure he would prefer still alive! We have to take care with our fishes, dogs, cats, spiders, scorpions and any kind of pet because people who lives with us are exposed to the same risks and they are not so "experts" like us!

yes I agree this si a sad loss for the family and friends of steve but lets also not lose sight that this man was doing activities that put him in danger every day teaching small children that they can in turn do this in there back yard, a family friend was out playin in the yard and grabbed a snake inturn was bit after seeing steve grab some animal on tv. it is true a sad loss for the conservationist world. :(

Wow, I found out this mornin when I was watchin Animal Planet. Im not normally very upset when celeberties die, but when I found out I got this feeling in the pit of my stomach. This sucks bad, I used to watch his show all the time when I was younger...
