:( Not sure if if I'd agree that the 'ray' was to blame. Probably just defensive posturing that unfortunately caught Steve in the chest near the heart rather than an arm or leg. He was a risk taker & a trailblazer. Nature is unpredictable at times. He will be missed.

R.I.P Stevie boy!! We all Luv Ya!!

Looks like you quoted my signature in your post. That was a totally unrelated inside joke. The first two lines were what I posted. We cannot blame nature for being nature.

another good point, with the number's being so low i cannot see how it would effect it. but only make people want to collect them for the fear factor, but i'm sorry but i cannot see how one could compare a Motoro with a Bull ray. BIG difference. and yes i mean BIG

on a side note, DC i seen in one of your posts you sold your leo's.. man-o-man i would of loved to have them in my tank!

The CNN reporter said that there was 17 total Stingray related deaths in all of literature. The last one reported in Australia was 1945, I believe.

I know there are alot of expos on cruises and such where you can 'swim with the stingrays', I wonder if this will be a problem also?

Keep in mind, There are not alot of deaths caused by Pirhanas but people are very afraid of them, and ignorant political uppers ban them due to mythology. This could fuel a similiar fire. .

Unfortunately, the lynch mob mentality of people uneducated on the subject leads them more to say "a ray is a ray." We went through a similar situation here in NY with snakes. All of the people dumping off and being hurt by their burmese and reticulated pythons brought up a lot of controversy. Everyone thought a boa/python is a boa/python so all should be outlawed. Thank goodness there was some intervention and there's an itemized species list outlawing the large boids.

Re: the Leopoldi...Yah...I sold it :(. Was outgrowing my setup so it had to go. She was a beast and would pounce on my 12" redtailed gouramis, hahaha. I miss her.

I feel the Irwin event will definitely have a negative effect on the stingray tour business for a time. My wife and I are big fans of cruising. The last two times I was in the Cayman Islands, I hit "Stingray City" and swam with the Atlantic Stingrays. Everyone was so fearful on the excursion of getting stung when the rays would come in that I was surprised no one did. It was such a chaotic situation with people screaming and jumping. People will only be more fearful now. I ended up getting pissed and went away from the mess with a handful of more calm people and had a grand time with them. They appreciated my expertise, LOL.

REST In PEACE!!

Any thoughts on what kind of Impact this incident will have on Stingrays in the home Aquarium? I heard a reporter on MSNBC talking about how 'Even some people keep these as pets in the home Aquarium..'

More Legality Issues? Illegal to Import into the US, seen as a dangerous animal (like Snakeheads)..?

More Demand due to the 'fear factor' involved, raising cliche popularity like Pirhanas..?

haha that was what i was just comming on to post.

i wached a coupple of documenterys on steves life tonight on anamal planet. and it realy changed my view of him, i know this is going to sound mean, but this morning i was pissed cuz a croc didnt do it, and after waching the stuff on him, i realy feel sorry for teri, bindi, and bob. they showed what he realy did with his life. and i now think that the animal world, and us have lost a great person.
