Stingray Biting...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
just because its the same problem doesn't mean it had the same solution. we both has different sett ups and we both have individual rays. each fish has a different personality so what works for you may not work for me.

plus it may at some point be hard to decipher which advice is going to which person.

it takes 5 minutes to make a thread where people can focus solely on your issue.

Wow OK whatever... thatnkd you've been a great help... yes it is sarcasm... and way to be a true mfk... and as far as your big female biting.your.male... the issue.is probably over food... and i bet he is bugging her as well... or possibly she wants to mate and he's not ready... hope this helps you because that's what we do as friends on here..n have a great day...

Dude, there is no reason to be a jerk about this.

Your situation sounds like your ray is in a lot worse shape than mine, and that you need someone to actually focus on your ray, and give you the most advice about it that they can.

And why would you try to give me advice about my issue if you can't even help yourself with yours? The issue is not food, as there is plenty left even when everyone is done eating, and she's bitten the smaller ones more than the big male. He's only got one small knick, and he is not mature or even bothering her. So, both of your helpful scenarios can be ruled out.

there is no reason to get your panties all up in a bunch because I recommended that you make your own thread. When you have an issue, that's what you are supposed to do.. make a thread so the people can help you out.

When I said about information getting mixed up, it's very possible when there is more than the OP stating they have an issue in a thread. You stated that you were keeping your ray in a sump... it's very possible that someone could have thought that was me, and tried to give me advice, but it wouldn't apply because I don't have a sump.. or someone could have advised what to do about the cloudy eyes, and not mentioned that's what it's for, and I could have done what they said, and ended up killing my ray. Do you get my point?

I tried to be nice, and explain that it would be better off that you make a thread for your issue, but yet somehow you're getting pissed off?

Chill out.

When you moved your ray to the 125 gallon was this a cycled tank? If not then do some water changes and test the water for nitrite and ammonia for a start.

Have you used any copper based treatments in the 125 gallon as this could cause the shedding of what I suspect is the slime coat.

Keep up the water changes and use a good dechlorinator.

Pictures are always useful.

I have heard of shedding slime coat before so do some searches based on "slime coat" and you should get a lot more advice. I think it is a stress or water quality issue.

Hey i apologize for being a smart ass.. seriously.. i jumped because i am truely worried about this girl... my 125 gallon has been cycling 4 a few months now.... and ya it might be the slime coat...

if something is peeling off of your ray sneary, it is most likely the slime coat first off.
mshill is correct in that your problem is not the same as hers. i even got confused when i returned to the thread and had to look back at whose thread/question it was. your own thread would greatly reduce confusion and allow us to know your particular problems with clarity.

usually the females don't get aggressive with mating, it is the males that get nasty when it comes to mating. ray mating is pseudo-rape, with the male attacking and inseminating the female while she is held down by him, and he has some part of her clamped tightly in his mouth. so i doubt very much the female is doing it due to mating maturity. there IS the chance.... just not likely.
