Mine was also store bought. He ate it and then next day he died. A perfectly healthy fish otherwise. Coincidence, maybe but I aint risking it ever again.

Ditto Calgary and USMCt aswell. Ive fed all of my rays with nightcrawlers from the start(wc rays), and somethimes i even digged in the dirt at my uncles farm to find, never had any issues, offcourse i rinse the dirt off before i feed.

I agree also there is a guy who bought tiger rays from David webber I know and he has raised them from pups to there adult size for 5yrs on a strict diet of night crawlers only 5yrs+ and has never had any issues, he swears by. Them and won't feed anything else he says they look healthy and are active as can be!

Just like any live food it's a question of source. Unless you necropsy the ray there is no way to tell what killed it. There are a couple of ways a live and apparently healthy earthworm can kill a raw. The first is embedded particulate on the worm, Small shards of glass or plastic adhered or partly penetrating the worm can do it. Though only inflicting a superficial scratch on the worm. Annelids will have a different poison tolerance than rays as well given that they evolved on different continents.

Both of these problems are avoided by using a reliable source. Same goes with any pet food.
