Stock Tank Wet/Dry filter

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just picked up two of the 150 gal sized bins from a closing store, they were doing what you have planned, I will be doing the same, though with external pumps. I will have my media in large garbage cans, they will sit on top of the bins instead of down in them. So depending on how full they are I will have a bit of splashing where the water exits the garbage cans but it shouldn't be too bad.

As for dividing them, best way I can think of is create brackets and mount them inside of the bins to the walls and the bottom, then slide the light diffuser down into it. It should stay pretty sturdy if mounted well. I'd think some good silicone should stick well.

I was thinking about doing what you have planned. Just wasn't sure if I wanted to drill or not. But the brackets are definitely the way to go for this idea. Post some pics on here when you get it up and running!

I can understand that. My two bins already have a few holes in each, so it is no problem hooking pumps up to them. They will also be connected so holes are a must.

To be honest I'm a long way off from getting everything up and running, I was going to start my plywood tank but ended up remodeling my basement first, I'm still in the middle of that so water is several months out still. But if you'd like pics of where I'm at so far my build thread is here, this is the post where I got the bins-

Ah I should have known that was your thread I was reading it earlier in the week. But I am in the same boat as you in regards to the status of my tank. Been sitting in the garage a month now. Just needs to be resealed and I am going to refinish all of the wood on the stand. Work is getting in the way at this point so I can only imagine how much time you have to refinish a whole basement.

I will be keeping a closer eye on your thread though!

It is amazing how quickly it can get away from you I've discovered. Life gets in the way a bit an suddenly it has been a month since you've touched the project. That is the boat I'm in at the moment, though I'm to the electrical stage of the project and I'm unwilling to do that on my own at this point. Hopefully soon I'll have some real fish updates for my build, but we'll see! I'll be looking forward to some pics from you as well! Honestly the setup and filtration is my favorite part of everyone's builds. It can be so different from tank to tank to accomplish the same thing.

It really is amazing how quickly it gets put to the side. Hopefully all of the elcetrical works out for you in a timely matter. I have been tossing that idea around for once I get my 300 in the house so I can only imagine the whole basement for you.

Ill try and get some pics at some point once I reseal the tank. Need to get two glass strips to place over seams on the bottom of the tank before I reseal and I have just been putting off calling the glass shop. But filtration really is interesting because it is so different! I always like when people post pictures since its easier to figure out for myself rather than trying to read it and picture it. Hopefully everything works out nicely for both of us! You should have a nice tank for those rays once your finished

Honestly removing all the old crap was so much more work than putting in the new stuff. For the electric I just need to get my dad to come by my place for an afternoon, he is great with that kind of stuff. Right now it is a pain, but in the end I'll be glad I did it. Everything will be how I want it, no need to worry about someone else's mess ups hurting me down the road.

But yeah! Fingers crossed for both of us! Seems like both with be great once finally done!

I bet it was a pain in the butt for sure lol. But thats good you have him to help you. My only dilemma will be that I will be moving out in a year and a half once I have enough saved up. I dont even want to think about moving the thing again since it was already a struggle to get it to this house as it is.

Cant wait to see the final setup you have going on with all the tanks you just picked up as well. You will have the prefect mancave for sure!
