Stocking ideas for a non-standard 55gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think ropes was as an alternative. They aren’t active, but aren’t inactive either (like most polys I suppose). Personally I think the tank is too small for a fish like that anyway.
For the acaras you could do a school of tetras and also something like yo-yo loaches or Cory cats as bottom feeders.
The cory habrosus is to small probably? I got those in my 30gallon.
Where does the blue acara come from in the wild?

Probably to small compared to a large acara, I would opt for something like a bronze Cory. Gets about 2.5 inches.
Electric blue acara is a man made breed of the wild blue acara (Andinoacara pulcher). Similar to the red tiger Oscar or electric Jack Dempsey, ones with specific color traits were bred, and their offspring bred, to create the strong colors of the ones seen today. These are often less aggressive and smaller. Think like how a poodle is the descendent of a wolf. As for the common blue acara (it’s wild type ancestor), they originate from rivers in Venezuela. duanes duanes would likely know far more specific where they are from and could probably point you to geographically correct tankmates down to the proper river.

Setup is amazing!
Otos will be ok with the acaras, but just make sure there is enough algae for the otos. They are notoriously hard to keep alive.

Wait a month, and diatoms will show. I believe they will eat off the Leaves, and maybe the glass.
Seems to be hit or miss even then. My recent school all withered away over a few weeks. Previous ones lives a lot longer in what I would have thought of as far less suitable conditions.
