I saw a pair of gold severum yesterday, damn they are so pretty, It was love at first sight. I didn't come home with them since I'm still waiting on silicon to cure but I am thinking about it....to hell with carefully laid plans and all that :P

Maybe just the pair for my 110?

Reviving a very old post to get some help with restocking my tank.

I have a pair of Blue acara in my 110 gallon and two additional juveniles.
I did the keyhole cichlids and had to rehome them because my Blue acara harassed them and as of 2 days ago they have reached a size that they have now decided the emperor tetra are snacks.

I'd like to keep the pair of Blue acara, rehome the extra 2, the tetra will be going in the next day or two.

I'd like to add catfish, I'm considering Hoplo or Pictus and I'm contemplating adding angelfish. I'd really love to have royal whiptail catfish but I suspect the aggression from the Blue acaras might be a little much. Do you think this would work in my tank? And if so how many angelfish and how many cats?

Hola,
I had a single electric blue acara with gold spot severum, Geophagus brasiliensis, pictus catfish, roseline sharks, and silver dollars without any issues. I understand a breeding pair is a different ball game, but those tankmates may work for you. Good luck

Did your pictus catfish come out during the day at all? I really want a catfish I get to see more then every couple of months ?

Yes they do. I have 3. They hide, go out, patrol the bottom, chase each other, and hide again. Its a one hour loop, ?

I think I should probably add a little more info on the tank.
I have a sand substrate, a jungle of java fern, a dwarf water lily and some crypts, and I've just butchered my pothos plant and added a few cuttings off that to the tank. At the moment I have some hardwood sticks and branches in the tank and a few rocks. The tank is well established, I've had it running for over a year, I clean the front glass but aside from that I generally let nature and algea do it's thing. It gets a weekly water change of around 40%. I'm using water proof LED flood lights on the tank, these seem to work ok for the plants I'm keeping.

Water parameters are as follows
Temp 24-27 degrees, it will often creep up to 29 for a couple of days over summer. That is Celsius btw.
My water straight from the tap.
pH 6.6 - 6.8 (reading from the API test kit is in between colours)
KH 3
GH 4
TDS 29

I don't adjust my water for my tank aside from treating it with Prime.

It has a sump filter, off the top of my head I think the pump is 3200ltr an hour.

I've got a breeding pair of blue acara as well. I hear you on the aggression, mine tolerate non-cichlids well. I use columbian tetras for the size with only the occasional nipped tail.20200426_224957.jpg

Bronze Cory's and bristlenose plecos work as bottom dwellers. I've got a breeding pair of those with mine also

I keep an oscillated synondotis with mine. He fights with my male acara but never more than minor scrapes, however he does beg for food with the cichlids20200308_082548.jpg

Only other cichlid my male has tolerated is a young vieja regani who has a few missing scales.20200427_073702.jpg

Yep, the female especially, he will only chase other fish off, she see reds. I've found she has gotten a little worst since one of the the juvillies (female) started to colour up a bit.

Love the Congo Tetra's but trying to keep all the fish SA only.

I've had at look at Cory's, but can't find anything for sale over 3cm, not sure how they would fair being added in with these bullies.

I use red blue columbian tetra. They are SA. I added. 3 tiny Cory's and lost 1 so that could be touchy. On them. My female is only nasty with eggs or babies around. But the syno makes quick work of all spawns

If you could find adults mesonauta species could probably hold their own or maybe a severum. I've had a rough time with similar sized cichlids getting shredded by the pair as a team. I'm hoping a larger more robust tankmate will do the trick.
