So I recently converted my tank from a frontosa setup to a SW. Its currently cycling with a clown and a few damsels. I would have left it fishless, but it was suggested by a lfs to add a couple fish so I figured what the hell. They all seem to be doing great going on week 2 here. Anyways after the tank cycles I would like to begin stocking the tank. I was hoping to go with the following, but am not set on any particular combination yet.
Imperator Angel fish, a blue tang, volitan lionfish, and perhaps keep the tomato clown. Now for info about the tank (220 gallons). I have 100lbs of live rock and plan to add a small bit more. I am running a fluvul fx5 and an ehiem 2262 and a 20 watt uv sterilizer (tank was not drilled). I will be adding a protein skimmer around the end of August. If this works out well, I will probably uprade to a bigger tank within a year or two that I can run a wet/dry and sump on. However in the meantime I'd like to get my feet wet with saltwater.

Stock list sounds fine. Im not sure if lionfish and angels are the best mix ever but i think it'll work just fine.

What kind of skimmer were you thinkin about??

You could always add a sump to this tank, just by getting an overflow box but i dont think it will be needed. Keep the canisters clean and you should be alright.

Also, post some pics when you get a chance.

I was looking at the Red Sea Prizm Pro Deluxe Hang-on Protein Skimmer as I obviously need something that hangs on the back. It is rated for up to 300 gallons. I was thinking about a sump, but a buddy bought some overflows from marine depot and when they lose prime, the floor gets very wet as the pump empties out the sump. Any suggestions for fish other than the lionfish? What about a majestic angel? I've heard though that adult angels may fight? I may also want to add some corals and other life to the tank and one of the local stores (that actually know what they are talking about) are going to help me upgrade my lighting for my application. I'll get some pics up soon, but the tank is very plain right now.

the lights will work but you will be very limited on what you keep becuase the tank is so deep. IMO i would get t-5ho's or halides, or both lol. That would be the best and most efficient route to go. the nova extreme pro would work well for you.

Ok I found the nova extreme pro t5 setup a couple more $s, but it looks like a better choice.

lol, when you talking a tank that large with corals, dont expect cheap lights lol. You could get a system way better then the nova and spend upwards of 4-5 thousand easy. LEDS are a great example.

The Nova extremem will do your basic softies and LPS corals in all areas of the tank, top-bottom. now if you wanted to do SPS or anemones i would suggest getting the Halide model, with t-5s for substitute lighting.

Well the tank is really boring right now and nowhere near finished, but I figured I would post a couple pictures.
