how easy would it be for the owners to have done this themselfs if they were in need of some money? Save back the expensive fish in their homes in holding tanks where they could be safe, then smash and trash the store, get money for the expensive fish, renovate, bring back the expensive fish and sell them for pure prophet. and on top of all that great publicity on how could people be so cruel and crazy that they would do such a horrible thing.

Anyone remember the story of a bunch of idiots bringing atlantic tidepool rock from the coast to a saltwater shop in a pickup truck? And then being outraged that they werent paid $500 for their "Live rock"?

People who would do something like this are definitely too stupid to know the difference between salt and freshwater. I can almost guarantee they made no profit off of the livestock.

IF these morons tried to sell any of the fish, or, far less likely, succeeded, that should lead the police right to their doorstep.

well I go with what my gut tells me. Now the other thing I was thinking was that a rival store may have gone in and done this. I don't know it just doesn't strike me as a regular just break in and steal type job. It had to be done by someone who actually knew what they were looking for, or at least doing, and the smashing of tanks and throwing the bird seems to be personal. And personal can even be that they are loosing money because they are in financial crisis due to sales going down, or who knows what and in a fit of rage distroyed there own place. or another LFS was loosing money and needed to increase sales of their own.

Well why wouldn't he take his prized coral along with the dozen fish? I doubt he would kill something of such value.
