Starting new aquarium strains is a fairly new thing to the hobby, and from the very beginning its been under great scrunity from ppl just like Stan and Dan and the rest of the pose. The one thing they all have in common other than being closed and sometimes a bit simple minded folks is that they've never really brought forward any real opposing arguments other than "it's gonna damage the pure location points in the hobby" , "I like the original ones better just cause", " it's gonna confuse us too much", " its just a gimmick", "hybrid hybrid hybrid"..... non of which makes too much sense in the grand scheme of things if you give some thought.
Op what you need to realize is that the hobby is evolving and that things are going to start changing very quickly all around you. Your best bet is to be ready for it all, as it seems that you're confused and unprepared to accept the changes. Don't be so quick to bash a concept that either you don't understand or are completely unfamiliar with, it makes you look foolish. Especially with your whole dog breeding reference.... Just wow.
Our new strains have been received very positively over all within the hobby and not only that the amount of interest they created has been outstanding to say the least. To be totally honest with you in most cases we struggle to meet the demands of the hobby when it comes to the offspring were producing, even here in your own market place. It's only in a few places like this forum that we get any type of back lash, it's actually quite funny. Although, I do admire your commitment to one another and how the 3 or 4 others in the group are quick to jump out at each other's defense. (the avengers would be proud)
Some of you say it's all just a ploy to extort others... Are you really that naive?? You really believe people will be that willing to give away their hard earned money just because they became so enamored with the strain name regardless of the quality like some mindless idiots??? Trust me, its not easy to get people to spend their dollars on fish and shipping these days. Who cares what was used to create the bloodline if the end product meets and exceeds the highest standards? It's just a fish like you guys say right, so why settle for 2nd grade just cause it's "a known location"... If improvements can be made while still remaining consistent with the species why the heck not? And since it's not a pure location anymore than why not give it a strain name? And if YOU created the strain, why not give it a name that YOU like?
You guys don't have to approve of it or respect it even but you will have to accept it. It's not going anymore guys sorry, the new generation of fish keepers are coming and fortunately they seem to bring with them an open mind and a knack for quality . It's gonna get really tough for you guys even in this little hole in the wall of yours, there's a lot more to come. GL.
