Letting a cat out does NOT mean you don't love your pet as much. I have a cat that can go out or in whenever he pleases and he chooses to be out more than in. It is in their nature to hunt and taking that away from them is inhumane IMO. Even a cat that stays indoors will hunt something if let outside for a few hours. I also like the fact that I have no critters running around my yard anymore because he patrols the area.

that right there is a good example of cats destroying the native wildlife. Dogs are hunters too but we shouldn't let them run loose. You have no idea where your cats is every minute it's out there. It may be ok for you but it's not ok for nature or your neighbor. It's people like you that I love to see pay to have to get their cat out of the shelter everytime. $60 everytime they need to get their cat out. Cat was on my property so it's trespassing. How woulf you feel if you neighbor came to you with a lawsuit saying your cat scratched his car and paint job by climbing onto it? What if he won and you have to pay thousands of dollars in damage. Would you still let your cat out?

What sucks the most and what a LOT of you are missing is that it isn't the cat's fault for being what they are...

People who aren't responsible as far as spaying and neutering their pets - that is where the problem is.

Unfortunately, extreme circumstances like this one are required in certain areas and I feel sorry for all who are involved.

I oppose putting a bounty on their heads because its going to be really sad when some people's pets are picked up. What they are doing here is rewarding people to come into a neighborhood and indescriminantly round up pets and strays alike. That is not the right way to approach the problem. If someone came onto my property and tried to forcefully remove my pets - that's the same as a family member - and I would protect them with the same level of force.

If people can keep dogs in the yard/property then they should do the same for cats. If they do that then there is no way for people to bring pets in for the bounty. If cats need to roam they should have one of those zapping collars on them like dogs have if they cross the property line.

If your kid gets away from you for a minute, your pet hunters may try to kill him, right?

Poor thread...........and worse interpretation of the bible.

Bingo. Voice of reason is you're not really solving the problem. Just being a simpleton thinking of something simple that you think will solve the problem.

I say put a bounty on dumb people. Natural selection isn't working anyways.

I don't know where you find these "truth's" that say you can determine what's right and wrong and what is fair and just, just because you can quote the bible doesn't mean you're Jesus.

Dude it's in the bible.. therefore it is "Truth" and never wrong. ;)

Del: As much as I think you're a great person at heart you take the bible way to seriously. In time as you live life I think you will learn that not everything in the bible holds true and that not every situation in life can be justly governed by that book. If you think that one religon and one bible can give you all life's answers right/wrong then I'll be worried for you.

That's a strong argument and a part of me agrees completely. The only difference is that dogs are generally more of a threat to public safety than cats are. Cats generally run away from things they are scared of i.e. strange people, where dogs generally tend to try and dominate their fears through either intimidation or an actual attack. For that reason I agree that dogs should never be allowed to free-roam.

In any event, pet cats that free roam aren't the problem here - its the strays. A solution that targets both pets and strays is completely inappropriate and just creates a hostile situation. Like I said, if I saw a stranger rounding up neighborhood pets...they would have about 30 seconds to leave the area or else...

I DO believe that people should take responsibility for their pets and make adjustments if they become an nuisance to their neighbors (declawing, spay/neuter, etc). It isn't responsible cat keepers that are at the root of the problem here.

Agreed! I mean if a cat passes through my yard I really have no problem with it, but if it chooses to hang around, mess up the yard and do it's busines in my yard then I definitely have a problem. But that's only the problems I see. I always hear people with cats saying "My cat brought me a bird today that it killed outside" That right there is wrong. Put bells on your cats so it gives the native birds and squirels a chance to get away. Declawing cats is a good thing too!

I really don't care, I'm aussie.

I saw a program a while back about cat control in Australia. There is (was?) a program teaching Aboriginal women to hunt feral cats as a source of food and income. As much as I disliked watching them beat wild kitties to death with a stick, I'm all for it. Cats are destroying ecosystems worldwide, but it seems the problem is most acute in places like Australia and the Galapagos, where species are disappearing FAST.

I am a cat owner, we spay and neuter all cats that we take care of, even the strays that show up at our back door.

I don't like the idea of cat bounties in American cities, there is too much possibility for abuse by unethical "cat-bounty hunters". If one beloved pet is stolen and killed for a few bucks, then it isn't worth it!
