I feel like being an eel might be a curse... they just wanted to play with the nice crocodile and in turn fried the crap out of him... your only friends would be rubber gloves
...i have been shocked by all most every thing houses, battery charger ,cars that are running, electrical fence none have killed me so i think an eel wouldn't kill me either.
it matters a lot more how your shocked (where our grounding out) as well than by what. grounding through your chest is bad bad bad news. and milli amps are able to kill you.
if you just go through to fingers worst case youll lose an end of finger..
I think electric catfish navigate the way normal catfish do. The still have their barbels and nose. The electric organ might help as well, but I'm not finding anything on it. Maybe this would be a good experiment for someone to conduct (with expertise that is).

Remember that you would likely have part of you submerged underwater while being electrocuted, as well as possibly being bitten by a very powerful fish at the same time. There is also the possibility of the jolt causing you to convulse enough to knock your tank over.
All in all I think that even if it doesn't kill you it would be one of the worst shocks of your life, especially if the eel is 2'-3'+.
