I've grew up and learn from there.

Yeah, that´s the point ;)

I am a Specialist for Coldwater Cyprinids and their Health but I have no Idea of Discus and very many other issues (I even have no idea of japanese Koi-Names as well, as long as they are pretty and healthy I don´t care :naughty:)

It is just a matter of self-cheating not to be honest in ones own limits.

There is still so much I can learn and I want to and I learned to stop myself talking **** if I really do not know anything about it.

And none of us ever stops growing, that is why we have to consider others being just seedlings that need the right influences to grow up greatly.

The Hobbyist must understand that he actually has no idea of professional work and the prof´s must learn that they have to be well informed and educated to support hobbyists and that there are some great specialists among the hobbyists.

I think if everybody would stand by their own limits and is more interested in sharing experiences and learning from each other than being a bothering "teacher" it would quiet improve the situation.

But if we all are honest, in the beginning we all were Self(ish)-Promoters, were we not? ;)

OK, sounds all a little cabalistic, but the main plot is the fish and we are the one to change the circumstances by recognizing first! :)

Dear Fellows ;)

I believe there is a deeper problem that has to be solved by professionals like us.

Of course we got a better inside view to professional issues concerning fishkeeping a normal hobbyist cannot get. But can you remember the time you started your hobby, I guess noone of us is a studied fishbiologist;)
------------------
I am.....
------------------

I assume all of us tortured many innocent fishes until we grew ourselves in that hobby.
-----------------
parents were biologists too.....
-----------------
In my opinion of course there are too many idiots just wanting everything "cheap and fast" and a living being like a fish is no hamburger consumable in a drive-in.

But we have to differ between innocent Rookies and selfish chuckleheads.
And it is quiet difficult not to treat the potential good-fishkeepers-in-the-future the same way as all dumbasses because it is so difficult to recognize them.
-----------------
anyone is a potential anything. although intent counts, it can't be discerned, and if all we can do is judge people on their actions, i say if it looks like a dumbass and it quacks like a dumbass, it's a dumbass.....
-----------------

Even a professional cannot know everything about any fishkind, so mistakes are possible and worst consequence is the misunderstanding.
----------------
death and extinction of species.....
----------------

So, if anyone really wants to improve the situation it is necessary that we all have to figure out the misunderstanding between the differnt parties of prof´s and hobbyists, so that we all can discuss on equal level.
----------------
if we all discussed on the same level, true enthusiasts whom will never be equaled by some vaguely-interested will be forced to lower their discourse to an elementary level. Arguably, it is best to seek help from better keepers, but not to badger them and cause a rift.....
----------------

This whole thread is quiet amusing  but actually too superficial to change anything. :(
-----------------
self-righteousness never solved anything.....
-----------------
----------------
"neither did hypocrisy, viciousconvict....."
----------------
-----------------
hmmmmm... good point, viciousconvict. I should probably shut up.....
-----------------

I think the purpose of this thread is to share stories and have a laugh. In my humble opinion, it kind of ruins the mood to speak so earnestly about mediation and reaching out.

yeah man, if you don't have a story to share, don't post anything.:screwy: :irked: :screwy: :irked:

i have a new story..

a lady came in to the store this weekend, she was very angry with us because she had gotten two fish on Friday (it was Sunday when she came in) and neither one made it through their second day at her house. she was convinced that we had sold her sick fish. so we asked her what kind of fish they were and she pointed at the bettas.

i think at this point you can kinda predict how they died.

we asked her what kind of tank she had them in and she said a one gallon with a filter. then we asked if she had a divider in the tank. she said they looked sad by themselves so she had decided to let them keep each other company.

wow..........what part of FIGHTING fish did she not under stand:screwy: :naughty:

i get pretty pissed some times but one day a lady came in and freaking threw a bag of yellow water with 2 rotting goldfish at me and said "these died, i want my money back!". the freaking water got on me and the counter and stunk to s***. i told her that she need a sample of her water so she insisted i test the water with the (rotten days old) fish in it. i told her to bring me back ank water and havnt seen her sence. i wanted to smack that nasty old B**** SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad.

I was once in petsmart and one of the clerks said to the other u wanna do a water change on the tanks and the other clerk said what is a water change....
I was like what the hell ur workin here and u dont know what a water change is?

I guess that is petsmart......

Wow... this is a GreAt PoST!....

i work at a LFS in so cal and we have a co worker whos is dumb beyond dumb. I really dont know why shes still on staff as we can get other people to do 2 times he work she puts out.. but :/... she will be dubbed Eel Eel

so these little girls come in with a bundle of money in their hands and start to cruise the store in prowl mode. So Eel Eel greets them as any other customer and proceeds to set them up with a tank. They settled on a 2.5 gallon Minibow, so they set it on the counter and begin the fish pickin process. Eel Eel bags 2 ranchu's, 1 tiger barb, a chinese algea eater, and 4 tetras. So they go up to the counter and start to ring them up.. the total comes out to be to much for them.. (they had like.. $50) so they bought the tank and the tetras. Eel Eel unbags the other fishes and goes minding her own buisiness. I confront her and ask her the "rules" on how many fishes per tank. She was lost and I told her what you should estimate and how goldfishes and other fishes are messy. She writes it down so she can "remember" and goes back to work.. -_-"... so now instead of raking in the fishes for customers she talks about her tanks at home and how this fish is that big and how she has 2 tanks and a pond. :screwy:

i got a 2 in one :P customer and worker

shes the talk of the store among employees but nothings happened to her.. drives me crazy :nilly:
