Is it just me, or does it seem like every day at the fish store features at least one conversation perfect for this thread? I'd say someone should compile them into a book, but we would be the only ones who would buy it, and why buy the book when you are living the movie? -Andrew

i was at a petland (i am currently unemployed, but that's cool im only 17) and this guy comes in and askes, polite as can be, to get a dozen crickets. he has a little like two quart hermit crab carrier thing. i'm thinking to myself, "cool, the old guys trying to breed feeder crickets." i ask him "so what are you feeding?"
"archer fish"
"those are really cool. i love them"
hmm.... we kind of mind our own business for a while and the employee comes back w/ the crickets and askes "iis there anything else i can get you?"
"yes i'd like one of those archer fish in your tank"
i'mstill thinking, whatever he probably has a tank already set up. he's an older guy i thing he's been keeping fish for a while now.

WeeNe858, I know exactly what you mean. our store has a girl just like that.
this girl does the dumbest sh*& all the time.
so one time... we had just converted our salt water section in to a fresh water planted tank section and we had put all of our snails in the planted tanks and they were just dieing like crazy so me and the fish specialist where standing in front of the tanks thinking of reasons the snails could be dieing when the dumb girl runs up to us and says
"guys! i know why the snails are dieing!"
so she runs up to the tanks and points at the little tubs of aquarium salt that we have in all the tanks to prevent disease spreading form the new fish we get every week and says
"its the salt! salt dissolves snail, didn't you know that!".
and we just stared at her. so i just told her that's not how it works and to go away.
it actually turned out to be the copperfix we had used less then a month before on a salt water tank that had ick, i was in the filter still.
one other time i was at the register and had called over the intercom for a manager to come to the front, and the dumb girl came running up to me and asks "what do you need" just like she's a freakin manager. i just tuned to her and said "no". i felt like i was scolding a dumb puppy.

So If we analyze all those nice stories we will find out in each case who the stupid part actually is and I assume in case of doubt that it is not generally the Rookie asking "stupid" questions it always is the wanna-be argueing but not informing und supporting.
A real professional is....even a real professional ....think about that, folks.
The worst ones i get, are the people coming in the the "Plasma TV" fishtank that thay braig about and say its "State of the art tec" "That is why your store dont got it".
Then ask me what they can put in it...
I cant believe somone would pay 2-300bucks for a 10gal tv tank. When they could of gotten a full setup.

I think perhaps you are reading a bit too much into the stories here. I appreciate, however, that you are not being a "wanna-be argueing (sic) but not informing und supporting." We could all use more informing and supporting, even from those who give us the harsh truth that WE are the stupid parts. Just be careful with that good advice, as it could be aptly turned right back, unappreciated, upon those who administer it. I think that is the gist of this thread. I'm thankful you were able to sidestep the delicious irony

I am not reading too much I am just pointing at something that interests me....that´s all.
Actually you are heading the wrong way stating that I am defining all of you being the stupid part I meant collectively, so there is no harshness in my opinion

What I actually mean and that is surely not the gist here is that some threads like this are misleading concerning the cooperation between prof´s and hobbyists.
But if there is anyone I blame for those are the prof´s because without experience and skills there is no professionality in business so only a professional has to prove being really professional. A hobbyist is allowed to make mistakes a prof can´t effort.
And I just take the right to do so, because I am one of them.
I appreciate everybody for critisizing constructively and that´s the point we all should discuss not offend each other...and that is no delicious irony.
