Sue's geo/angel tank pics and will I have issues

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hi Sue,

Great aquascaping and I just love the driftwood. I am looking for similar pieces to do my scalare geo tank. Even the rocks look awesome in there.

I don't think the lemons should ahve a problem as they will grow together and won't be seen as food if you don't feed live. Also the angels are farm raised so don't have that natural killer instinct.

Any more updated pics for us to ogle over?

Hi there.. Cockroach... Thanks for the compliments... The lemons were rehomed a while ago as they just made the tank look too busy.. I wasn't really worried about the angels with them as I've had angels with rummys and the rummynoses were fine.. but thanks for mentioning it. Right now I am dealing with a female ram that isn't looking too good. The male is his normal colorful feisty self but the female has lost a lot of color. Ruurd (DutchDude)mentioned that Kathy used to always treat all her rams with meds so I will try and get some and see what happens. My source was the lfs and they said there's did not do well either... maybe bad stock or age I don't know.. Everyone else is doing great.
If the size is any indication, as I have been told it might be, I think I have 2 male and 4 female orangeheads. Two of them have really put on size and their noses are turning orange and the fins are developing a lot of blue and red.. just hard to catch in a photo with my very limited skills.....
The angels of course continue to grow and some are larger than quarter size now. It is really a shark feeding frenzie when I get anywhere near the tank.. This includes the male blue ram who has now decided to go for the NLS pellets just like the big guys rather than waiting for flake:ROFL::ROFL:. He really is a character.. In a few weeks I will try and post more pics when I have something to show..as in bigger fish:ROFL:.. Sue:D

I also had two rams in a tank and the dreary, not too healthy looking one turned out to be an abused male. I swapped him for a female and viloa, just beautiful they are.

As for giving meds, my LFS guy showed me a neat trick I have used a couple of times since. Get fully grown napauli put them in a small container with the meds for about 15mins and then add the med solution. Apperently the napauli eat some of the meds and when your fish eat them the meds go straight into the stomach.

I am having a hard time deciding which geos I want for my tank.

Hi Cockroach... Glad you got the ram thing figured out. Since both of these pairs spawned I know I had 2 males amd 2 females (with bright red bellies).. It's now been about 3 weeks since I got them and the lfs had them a few days before that.. I think the first pair that died went because they were harasses by the dominant pair after going from suppllier to lfs to my qt to my big tank after a spawn. I think they were just stressed to death. The second female spawned twice. Up until yesterday they were a colorful wonderful pair guarding their eggs with gusto. Then she started to go downhill.. first not eating as greedily, then loss of color and hiding near the bottom of the tank. I went to try and get meds but the lfs didn't have any.. They have to order them.. By the time I got home she was gone.:(.. The male however is doing great.. He doesn't seem to notice his loss and is still being a pig at feeding:ROFL:..
Ruurd also has mentioned soaking the food in the meds. By napauli do you mean brine shrimp?? I live in a very small town in the mountains and I don't think my lfs has anything live (foodwise) except for ghost shrimp and feeders.. but thanks for the tip..
I am still undecided but think I would like to find him another mate.. Will he be ok by himself if I can't find one??

As to the geo issue...Which ones are you thinking about?? Whichever you pick will be great.. I love them all.:grinno::grinno::grinno:. If I wanted to stock back up on tanks again I think, other than a dscus tank again, the others would all be geos and gymnos..
I really enjoy watching the oh babies..It's better than tv.. Take care Sue:D

Hi all. Well I figured it was time for a short update and some pics. While the geos and angels are all doing well and their coloration and size has markedly improved, unfortunately my photo skills have not so please bear with me:ROFL::ROFL:. The tank now has only the orangeheads and the angels and I have removed the rest of the plants. The geos kicked up so much sand and dug around the roots of the plants looking for food so it got very messy indeed. Now everyone is much happier and the tank is easier to clean.
Rather than try and get that "perfect pic" which I can't possibly do, I have tried to capture just how colorful and large the fish have become since I got them in the beginning of Feb. The ohs started out at about 1 1/2 inches at around 3 months of age and now the largest is about 4 inches and has small trailers. The angels started at around dime/nickel size and now the bodies range from silver dollar to about 3 inch size not including the fins. The marble angels have all started getting orange foreheads as well.. Maybe they are trying to out orange the geos:ROFL::ROFL:.. The one silver with black stripes angel has not developed any orange but is now the largest. Everyone is still getting along well and I recommend the combo.
Hope you like the pics.. I added the one with water spots just because I liked the artistic look.. Hopefully better pics as I practice with the camera in the future so I can do justice to these beautiful fish.. Sue:D

Can't wait for more pics...:popcorn::)

Hi.. Thanks Bigfish. I see you are starting to collect some nice geos... I highly recommend that you have sand (pool filter sand is my fav) rather than the gravel it looks like you have in your tank. The geos sift thru it 24/7:ROFL: and you really miss out on seeing that natural behavior. Good luck with your tank. More pics to come in a few weeks I hope. Sue:D
