Suggest me a dog

The biggest question here that has already been asked is about you and your g/f. What type of enrergy level do you have, and how much energy can you devote to the dog?

Until you answer that, some of the suggestions made may not be good ones at all. Australian sheperds, JRTs, almost all terriers, and springer spaniels tend to be high energy dogs. If you are a slug, you will not be happy until the dog slows down to your pace.

My mother knows all about that with my parents current golden retriever. He's an 80 lb alpha dog that she couldn't put into check until he was almost six. She hated him until that point. Now they are best buds (well, as close as they will ever get ).

Don't know if this has been suggested yet, but how about a basenji? They stay around 20-25 lbs, definitely a cool dog. I would suggest a husky, can't go wrong with them, but you did say no shedding...

We like to do a lot of things outside. Hiking, camping, fishing.

you need something in the herding group. Something there I think would suit you best.

so far this is the easiest baby i have raised.. no matter what dog you get and how cute it is... i hope your as lucky as i am....... i have to pinch myself ... now i just have to get the dobes and the pup to bond...so far so good... and if you have to groom to your arm falls off ..still worth it.:DView attachment 388456

second that. a sheltie was my first and favorite dog.

i was going to say besenji as well, my friend has one and its awesome, also i have a rat terrier and hes the coolest little guy ever. thinks hes a st. bernard. :)

gottiline look hella beast, but if you want a smart dog i would recommend a border collie, doverman, or even a german shepard

I really like shelties. When I have a place for another dog, I'd love to get a sheltie as a buddy for my Aussie. If you like doing stuff outside, I agree that a herding breed would be good. My Aussie LOVES hiking and pretty much just being outside in general. Having her has actually helped me get in better shape because now someone has to take her out for at least a couple miles everyday, so I have to go out and walk/run everyday myself
