Got a lot of plumbing done this weekend. Sump is all plumbed in. I’m about a third of the way to finishing the ultima plumbing. Will leak test after.

All areas where I felt the joints weren’t fully water tight, I applied a perimeter of Weldon 16. A tip I got from reading the reef forums. I reallly hope I don’t have too many difficult leak problems. God knows I made enough mistakes so far. As mentioned on another thread, thank God for couplings.

You will see from the picture of my coffee table as it looks at the moment and you’ll notice more than half the fittings I had in a previous posting are now either used up or out in a box to return to lower/Home Depot/OSH. I can’t believe how many trips I made to get various plumbing pieces. Even when you think you’re prepared...

I love this tank... even though it hasn’t even been filled yet because of how much I’ve already learned about plumbing and filtration. Things only a custom build can teach you. I’m happy and blessed to have this opportunity to build what has been, up until now, nothing more than a dream. I’m even more blessed to have a network of hobbyist throughout the country reading my threads and posting tips and ideas on how to plumb and set up this tank. Regardless of our differences, we have this in common. Talk about bridging the gaps.

I love this hobby.

Pics below: feedback appreciated.

Looks great man. Did you consider putting in a check valve ?
I did siphon breaks along with a true union swing check valve

Thank you sir. I decided not to put in a check valve and will do siphon breaks instead.

Sump is finished. I installed the four 7” sock holders to the end of the sump and split each of my 2” overflows into a set of two 1” hoses each going into the socks. I put a baffle using 20ppm poret foam to separate off an area for 16L of seachem matrix that I’ve been seeding in the sump of my 280. I then put a piece of 40 ppm poret foam under the glass baffle to create a refugium area that’s 20”x20” in the sump for a grow out space.

The inkbird was set up with three 300 watt Eheim heaters.

The sump is ugly but it works.

Quick question for JK47 JK47 pr anyone else for that matter. How do I hook up this 1.5” backflush hose to my 1.5” PVC pipe. The backwash hose came with an adapter. The adapter has a nipple on each end with the hose clamping on woth metal clamps. Wondering what piece I buy to connect this nipple to the PVC pipe.

Here’s a pic. Thank you for your help everyone.

Before we get complicated on fittings, that whole piece may not be necessary. Take the hose clamps off and the blue line. If memory serves correct the blue will fit over the pipe width or even with a fitting in if it isn’t tight.

As far as hose hookup to backwash line, a union is all you should need.

The blue hose doesn’t fit over the 1.5” pipe. Is there anything I can buy that’ll connect the two?

I would try a hose barb x male thread. $2 fitting but is smaller than the pipe diameter. There are 1.25” diameter as well. Once it’s threaded you can connect however you prefer.
