sump for eight 100Gals and six 55Gals

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ok newb question......whast pulling the water out of the tank?
like if i line thes tanks stacked on a wall wouldnt the sump have to be lower than the tanks on the bottom row?

like i just dont get how im pulling all the water out of each tank without a return pump

Gravity feed to the sump (overflows), then a return pump to a distribution manifold and on to each tank.

So to answer your question, yes the tanks need to be higher than the sump.

good replys!
tanks are all drilled, and i would be using PVC pipe.
maybe have a barrel in each corner? hmmmmm im new to the monster room, as of now i have a few mediumsize tanks (100 gals/55s ).
wet/dry sounds bad then what else would i use?

so i suppose rule of thumb is like having the sump 1/3 of the size of the tanks total?

im on a few forums but they arent really into the "bigger"scale things like you guys.

and before i get a PM about the Pic thats my g/f and she gets on here also on this name.

I trust the other side is just as good :D

o yes ;)
ill post pics this week of what i have dug/ set up
another idea my friend uses is stacking the 2 breeder tanks over a pond type box and use that as a sump and grow out fry in the pond.
im just so scared of mass infection

It is a fact of multi-tank life.

You do have to be extra careful and always use a separate quarantine tank with a minimum stay of 3wks.

Install a good UV sterilizer in the return to help thing out too.

great advice as always dr joe ;)
im running the power/water lines today.
still trying to see how much room i have....if i need the sump under it then i need to rethink the layout of my tanks.
and i could use a return pump if the sump wasnt under the tanks to return the water?
sounds like a waste of money/power but maybe i can fit more tanks in there =)

wow. just wow.

/pix or it didn't happen. ;)

I'm confused.

I hope we aren't getting our lines crossed here...

You can either...

1) Gravity feed to the filter and pump back. (filter lower then tanks).

2) Pump to the filter and gravity feed back. (filter higher than tanks).

At no time do you want to use pumps for both functions (two pumps) as it is tedious at best (constant fiddling) to balance the pumps and at worst it just doesn't work (not trustworthy).

from your other threads it would seem that you dont have these tanks yet. if it were me, id get the tanks first before i started doing any plumbing work
