Sump Question

I've had good luck with the jebaos. A 6500 would put you at around 1000gph at a little over 6' of head. They are adjustable 30% to 100% power so if it's to much flow you could dial it back a bit. If it were me I'd go for an 8000 model and start off at around 60%. That way you'd be able to ramp up if needed/wanted.

Flow curve shows what a pump can put out at various head heights like the graph I posted. If a manufacturer doesn't include one or offer one it's probably hiding it's poor performance or it's not pressure rated. You need a pressure rated pump for a sump return.

The sump will have mechanical (socks, sponges, then floss) biological (still researching lava rock vs bio balls vs ceramic blocks etc.) and hydroponics. I am in the process of sketching it out now. I do plan on having ball valves in order to regulate flow on the drains and return.

The jebao DC pumps are good like twentyleagues twentyleagues suggested. They are quiet and reliable at a decent price point, and come with a controller to finely tune flow instead of requiring extra valves in your plumbing. I use 2x jebao dcp-10000s on my 200g with 2x 1.5" main drains. Below are some pictures of how they're rigged.

The 10000 is good for ~3400 gph at 0' head, so I would recommend one of these or maybe even the next size up, the 12000. It's never a bad idea to have a little more pump.

The fluval sp6 is a good option as well imo. I have actually used the smaller sp4 in the past on a tank with similar dimensions to yours, a 150g with single 1.5" drain. It worked ok but I always wanted a bigger pump because I always had the sp4 on full power to maintain 800-900 gph on my setup. Like I said before, pumps run quieter and last longer on lower power.
