Super NON-Agressive Pond Fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Blue Gil, Stergeon, true Carp, Trout, Walleye(oopps, aggresive), Giant albino Gourami...there are quite a few out there...beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I like ugly fish for some reason...they are the toads and turtles of the fish world and beautiful in their own way.
BTW, what do you consider cold water?

A massive school of minnows?
Any Cold water fish will do well. :)

I have a single blue gill in mine with about 200 minnows and it works well.
am really liking this idea!!:headbang2any types of minnows you reccomend? how many can i get in a 400gallon pond?

GG's can get extremely aggressive once they start to get big and will sometimes kill anything and everything in their tank/pond, and I dont think they would do well in a coldwater setup. Koi are the only peaceful and colorful fish I can think of that would work in a pond.

i guess ama gowith Koi or Bluntnose Minnow or Silverjawed Minnow,

this is the Silverjawed Minnow

If you are going cold water (temperate = no heater)

Rosy Reds are a good choice. I have silvers but you can pick and choose. They look really cool when schooling. Once in a while you'll see that 1 smaller predator come out (in my case the blue gill) and you get to watch the chaos, then back to tranquility..

The bonus of cold water fish is, they can take temperature swings easily as long as the pond is deep enough and partly shaded.

Just out of curiosity, why does it have to be unaggressive?

And to answer your question about the channel cat, no, they aren't aggressive, but they (like any other large fish) will eat any fish that can fit in their mouth.

A word of caution on Koi ... I have had a few fancy varieties, Doitsu, Common and fan tails..
Although beautiful, the colors are easily seen by local predators (raccoons, cats, king fishers etc..)
Please take that into account when thinking of your selection. In the beginning it will be trial and error.
