hello everyone
me and my gf jus got bitten by the saltwater bug
and we want to start a 20g nano wit a clown or two
all the help/suggestions would be appreciated

right now we have
the tank
penguin filter
heater
hood w/ actinic bulb
salt

and buying some sand after work today

other than the protein skimmer wat other equipment
do we really need?

if you are only keeping clowns then i would say you are set. make sure to cycle the tank for 4-6 weeks and get your live rock in there and you should do fine. make sure to study a lot before you go too far.

hello, you'll need about 1 lb of live rock per gallon of tank water and that is all the filtration that you'll really need. I would put one cocktail shrimp in the tank and let it raise your ammonia up to about 1 ppm and let the nitrogen cycle work it's magic ;).

Hay max when your cycling a SW do you put in the LR while cycling or after its cycled?

i was thinkin bout puttin in some anems aswell any suggestions as to which types and how many
and would a featherduster do well with them
how about other fish i kinda dont want it to be too barren in there

It depends I normally just buy uncurred live rock for the cycle and let it do the shrimps bit. Keep an eye on it though and make sure ammonia gets to at least 1 ppm. I wouldn't attempt an anem until your tank is at least 6 monts old it needs to be very stable as to dusters you'll likely get several on your live rock. They are pretty easy and it sounds to me like we have another reefer in the making :naughty:

The live rock curing in your tank is what cycles it. No shrimp needed. (Eeeeewwww... just what I want to start out my reef tank with, a dead body. NIMFT!).

20g isn't large enough for an anemone--you can't keep it stable enough. You could try some frogspawn & see if they host in there.

do i need the protein skimmer right away or i can wait awhile
and as for live rock any one from hawaii kno where i could buy/get some

LOL, take the rock right out of the ocean! Do you think that's legal?

Skimmers are a good thing to have if you want to save $$$ from using all that salt for water changes.
