SW newbie questions

get the skimmer before you add anything to the tank, a 20g is just fine for an anenome (i kept one in a 6g) as long as you have the right lighting. before getting the anenome make sure to do your homework or you will have problems, they are not as easy as many hope.

expect 6 weeks to cycle and then at least 6 months before you add an anenome.take it slow and you will be fine.

anyone can tell me if the seaclone skimmer any good
so far thats the only one i can find around
tryin not to order online but if i have to..

Seaclone is one of the worst skimmers out there, stay away from them and Jebo for sure. Look at an Aqua C remora (or urchin if you do a sump) pro.

there are some others too so keep looking. you may be forced to get it online

Forget about a seaclown. I stand by my opinion on the anemone & the tank should be well established before even thinking about getting one. How long did that one live in the 6g? My RBTA is the size of a dinner plate now--can't imagine it in a 6g or even a 20g.

I'm with you p.p. I wouldn't consider an anem until I'd kept a reef type set up for at least 6 monts if you've kept f.w. or at least 8 months if you haven't . They need stablility and yes sea clones are crap.

ok i set it up
salinity is roughly at 1.022
changed light to a 50/50 and is on for 5 hours
temp roughly at 78*F
upgraded filter to an emp 280 and running
ordered an aquac remora
got a piece of uncured lr
and popped a shrimp there as well

did i miss anything??

I totally agree on the tank needing to be established for at least 6 months (see my comments) the 6g had been going for 2 years prior to the anenome. i had a smaller rose bubble and he had the run of the tank so it was ok for him to get big.

sounds like you have a good setup started!!! everything looks good so far. you can expect a few weeks for the remora to break in and run really good but i am sure you will love it.

don't forget to yank the shrimp out in a day or 2.
good luck!!

alright kool
now its down to the waiting game...damn i hate this part of fish keeping
so can anyone suggest a clean up crew to stir up the sand
i was thinkin 20 hermit crabs but i wasnt too sure as to wat kind
and if they were good for the set up i was thinkin of

Oh, if you only have one little chunk of live rock that won't do mate. Get some base rock as well ,"should = some where around 1.5 lbs per gallon." The shrimp is used to raise ammonia in tanks where you are using base rock to encourage bacterial growth. Most of your filtration is provided by the rock in tank and it's against the law in both HI and FL to take non-aqicultured rock for the sea.
