Pool pumps aren´t made to run 24/7. The power consumption will also most likely be uneconomical compared to what the tank will need relative to pumping capacity. I´ve installed such systems on tanks before but only on systems above 1000 gal cause they´re uneconomical on smaller systems. I´d look for a filter/pump combo better tailored to your needs.

yah i think ive given up on the swimming pool filter. i already have a fluval 404 so ill keep that and get another canister (another 404 or something) to use with it or find a tank that has a second canster already included. was just hoping this mighjt save me money in the long run but seems like itll be more hassle then good

Just to let you know..I use a similar filter to clean my tank.
If you ever try a powered vacuum system to clean a tank, you will never go back.

One thing to consider is if the motor is rated to run 24/7, probably isn't and this could lead to the motor burning out

I was beat by this,

I bought an Index pool that came with a filter pump. It had a warning "NOT" to run it more then 8 hours due to possible overheating.

Your plan sounds good except for this. I was still using mine but I would only run it for 6-8 hours a day.
