Synbranchus marmoratus?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's OK to get attached to fish as long as there is no hanky panky goin on.

I think that in your situation I would have done the same, without a Quarantine tank for it and with other fish at risk I probably would have destroyed it also. I by the way do consider cost and availability when it comes to deciding whethrer to try to save a fish.
I purchased a japanese eel (A. japonica) at a fish marketnwhile in Korea and dropped it into a 55g containing some wild goldfish, pond smelt, cobitus loaches, and a korean bumble bee bullhead that I had caught, it promptly started eating everything else. The only fish I minded it eating was the bullhead but if I had bought the fish I probably would have not allowed the eel to eat them.

rumblesushi: sorry to derail this thread, you mentioned that you kept a goldfish that you bought as a feeder for your SH. I've heard that goldfish aren't good as feeders because they have copper in them or something? How often do you feed your SH goldfish and what else do u feed it? CHEERS

Guppy - that Jap eel looks cool. Looks like a mini conger eel. how long did you have it?

sqratch - I think the copper comes from the conditions feeders are kept in mostly. Goldfish raised properly to sell as pets are fine in my experience, they are perfectly healthy.

BUT having said that, I like goldfish now. I think they are pretty cool fish. Active, hungry, shiny, and funny.

So I'm going to stop using them as feeders. I now only use platys/mollies as feeders, I don't like them, they are ugly.

i have also recently become fascinated with goldfish and i don't know why.

I can get goldfish pretty cheap here.

lol i don't really care if my feeder fish are nice or not. If i buy them as feeder fish they're gonna become dinner. Unless i get attached to them. I have a goldfish i bought as a feeder and when i got home i noticed that the edge of his fins are black and the rest of him is orange gold. He kicks ass. In the same batch of goldfish i got there was a black one with one eye. He looks like a pirate.. so i kept him too

That's cool E, same with me.

You know, when I got this gold fish home and put himin the tank, I noticed his top was very shiny, bright orange/gold, and he has a nice white underbelly, and huge fins.

And he was VERY active, and would follow me around biting the glass expecting food. He has personality. So I thought damn, I'm keeping this one.

I fed his friend to my snakehead, but kept him :D

I tell you what - goldfish are meant to be slow growers right? I got this goldfish at just over 2 inches 2 months ago. It's now 5 inches and fat. It's on a predator diet, mussels, prawns, and hikari food sticks.

hahaha that goldfish has the LIIIFFE.. Was born as a slave and is now a king. I was at the LFS store the other day where i usually get my channa's and the owner got a bunch of cheap goldfish, and noticed one that has BEAUTIFUL markings. Has black around his eyes and kinda looks like he has a black beard. The colouration on his finnage was also symmeterical. He is sellins it for almost 100US i think more.

rumblesushi,
You have a f**ked up way of thinking, but you might also be very young which would explain things. :grinyes:

I only had the Japanese eel for 8-9 months then transfered out of Korea and sold what I had there. It was about 28-30" when I had it.

richie - why exactly? What's ****ed up about it?

I love violence, I love seeing animals hunt and kill other animals, but I get attached to pets. I have done since I was a kid.

Don't see what's ****ed up about that at all. I'm 24 btw.
