synodontis catfish

thanks for the info xApostle ... the syno and ship both got moved to that 30 gallon just a few weeks ago .... they were in the other 30 gallon tank before (my tropical tank) he was fine with my 3 dojo loaches, 4 algae eating shrimp, 2 african dwarf frogs and my orange mexican dwarf lobster. As far as I know ... (which isn't much .... had a goldfish tank when I was little 3 goldfish ... 1 ate the two and then he committed suicide) .... those are all bottom dwellers. It was only the when I tried to introduce a corydora or pleco that he'd get territorial I guess. But you've got my mind going now about another tank for our household.
By the way ... In your opinion ... was I wrong for moving the ship and syno from one 30 to the other 30.

sorry mate, I just re read my post and meant to say catfish and plecs. IMO, you didn't do wrong for moving him. honestly, I used to keep a featherfin and givin a big enough tank they are awesome. he should be ok with loaches
if you get a bigger tank, like 300litres,
add more synodontis species.

xApostle may be right but the silhuette of the fish does not strike me as a euptera. For one, the dorsal shape is not right for it at all. Could you provide good shots for an ID? Or

Which one of the syno species does it look like? http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/genus.php?genus_id=29 granted this is a very large genus. The common ones have lots of photos, rare ones have few or none.

I thought that at the start too but I have one of these in the shop I work in but it is exactly identical but is a featherfin. on the other side. it may be a featherfin x ??? cross

To me the one it seems to look the most like is the Synodontis Nigrita ... plus the twin I saw in the store was only 20 bucks (so nothing fancy or rare) ... to me there's a distinct coloration difference between his (what I call Helmet) to the rest of his body ... Its why I've always refered his head to having a helmet ... took me almost a year to first find out his was a synodontis .... he rarely comes out of the ship as its his home ... I'll try for a better pic, but that's almost like winning the lottery

You can put it in a phototank... or just a jar but make sure it is square, not round. If you are careful, this will not stress him beyond his coping ability. He will be fine. Or take all the decor out of the tank and photograph him in a bare tank.

Here's some more pics of him ... even without the ship he's still flighty except for head on shots ... maybe he was picking a fight for taking his home ... lol

the dorsal fin looks different. Could be a synodontis ocellifer
