I've been cursed with this as well. I have 2 "feeders" that are now 6"+ and don't know what to do with them. I suppose I could feed them to my newly aquired Gulper Cat, but am strangely attached to them. lol.

find a small pond near your house (like really small that wont go to the river) and set them free

Never EVER set fish loose in the wild. Even goldfish. Use them as feeders or take them back to your LFS.

ive got a goldie in my 100 gallon, he thinks hes a pbass....for now, till they cn eat him...lol he seems to be doin fine, hes growing and eating, i think the whole thing is a load of bull****.....heres a pic of the guy

I had a feeder in my GT and JD tank and now he's about the same size as the Demspey!! Fat little bugger. I think he does an excellent job of keeping the tank clean. I've been thinking of doing this in all my tanks, he sits there and works allll day long! Kinda like a day laborer:ROFL:

it can work, but the problem comes form the tank being too small for the full grown goldfish and the tropical fish, or the temp being way to high for the gold fish, and there aren't any goldfish that require tropical temperatures.

Just remember, its not weather you can keep it alive in a different environment, it's weather they will be healthy.

A lot of fancy goldfish website seem to agree that fancy goldfish should be kept at warmer temps, 76 and up. One site gives a range between 76-82.

I have kept my fancies at temps between 72-78 and have found they are more active at the higher temps.

How bad is it really to keep a fancy goldfish in a tank with tropicals? Seems like anyone who mentions they mix goldfish with other fish gets immediately flamed on any fish board.:banhim:

But come on, I've done it and I know other people who do it. Like the feeder fish that just never got eaten and just becomes part of the community. Never had a problem with it, goldfish seemed fine. Maybe it's because the modern varieties have been bred to be so unlike a wild goldfish that it doesn't really matter anymore if they live full time in a 76 degree tank. What do you think?

that temp is perfect

many say that they are coldwater fish and prefect COLD water. They actually are more like "coolwater" fish and prefer water in the low to mid 70's, your goldfish are perfect where they stand :)

I like this thread. I've kept goldies in a tropical community tank in the past...

If you're not bothered by the awkward look, then who cares? The fish will be fine, as long as you keep up with tank maint.

i have never had a problem with the goldfish being unhealthy in the the warmer water. so i see nothing wrong with it
