I'm going to start a "what goldfish do you have" under the 'other monsters' section :D

You should start it in coldwater...that's my territory.:naughty:

And to think goldfish are sub-tropicals...lmao.. :D We ought to make a new section 'Sub-tropicals' and move all goldfish threads in there.:grinyes:
It's a common myth IMo that goldfish require coldwater. In truth, when you look at where they are found native in the wild they are actually sub-tropical and can survive in a wide range of temp variations.

I've always believed that Fancy Goldfish should have a heater, but just to maintain the temperature at 75 degrees Ferinheit. So it's not a bad thing in my opinion. They only tropical fish that I kept in the tank with them were a Banjo Catfish (which is still alive, just moved him to a different tank) and a Walking Catfish (which grew really big so I put him in a bigger tank).

Yeah, I realize that but despite the fact they are technically sub-tropical I assume most people will still call them coldwater.

I kept goldfish with my Pacu for some time until the goldfish moved into my father-in-laws pond. I got the tank for the goldfish, it came with Pacu, they are on a waiting list at Blue Planet, but haven't left yet unfortunately lol.

If you have good filtration and tank space enough to let the goldfish grow then the only problem I see is keeping the goldfish on a proper diet. Many foods used for tropicals are to rich for use as a staple with goldfish, especially some fancies, it leads to fatty degeneration of the liver and that can lead to a lethal case of bloat.

They were just shubunkins and standards :) Fairly similar requirements to the Pacu, did pacu food and things one day and koi and goldfish food the next, the Pacu really only want to eat the koi food though lol.

in a community tank I would never do it. the goldfish are just way too big eaters, and will starve the other fish in there. I also wouldn't keep them with bottem feeders.
I personally wouldn't keep them in any tropical fish tank, but with some fish it can work.
