For example, heres the pic I posted from few months ago when I got bashed for having a small tank... the funny thing is more people got offended by my picture than the amount of people here by this picture.

Some people are sheep mate, they will just follow the leader...

If this pacu,RTC tank was mine and i posted this thread i would of been slaughtered but because a very well known and respected member posted it not as many people will jump on it...

Im a big fan of monster fish packed tanks, but this is ridiculous !

IMO, a crowded tank is okay as long as the tank is big enough for the fish to swim a reasonable amount of distance without bumping its nose against the walls.

Is this the equivalent of a 4" goldfish in a 1/4 gallon jar?

I like your tank. I don't care for the decor, but I like the way you stocked it. I wager that if your picture didn't show the stuff below your tank, and your decor was a sand substrate with driftwood, and nothing else, you would not have gotten flamed so badly.

Ever see Oddballers cichla tank? Gorgeous tank, packed with cichla's, RTGG, and either RD or some sort of hybrid (I'm not sure), and did he get flamed for it? Hell no... people respect him.

Because of double standards like that, I always shrug off the moral cops. What I don't like about this country is that if the majority doesn't agree with other views on minor issues, they enforce their views on others (with legislature most times), instead of keeping the country as 'free' as possible.

I believe that stunting doesn't affect all fish the same, and also depends on the degree of the stunting.

Just a side comment, I have that pic of the tank with two pimas, oscars, arrows, rtc, as the background of my PSP. Yeah, that tank is extreme, and pushing limits pretty far, but I respect the moxy the owner had to have to do it (if it were really that bad, those fish would not have grown that big... the fish were all adult sizes except the pimas and rtc). I love the tank because all the fish are so incredibly healthy looking, albeit the Pima's can't turn around which sucks, since they prefer to swim a whole hell of a lot more than well fed RTC's.

The tank does not belong to a well known member of this forum, Neoprodigy just took the picture while he was overseas. Why do people feel that big fish deserve a better life, what about feeder gold fish, packed in tanks with more fish than water, rarely if ever fed, then destined to be dinner, where are their advocates. I already said, that tank in the picture is too small for the fish. I've written so much about this subject because I have such a pathetic life, nothing better to do at 3am, and just feel like ranting. Cheers!

tank space in my opnion is relative. Its like people who live as nomads, roaming the fields, compared to some city slickers, that live in a 700 sq. ft. apartment and has never been out of the State, which one is happier.

Or how about compare the homelss that roam the city, free range, but scavange for food, then our inmates, that are confined to 10x10 give or take, but have food, shelter, and basic necessities met, who has a better life?

Survival is the key, who wouldn't want a 10,000 square feet mansion? well, the rich people with it aren't necessarily happier than the guy in the 600 square feet apartment.

The pacu spawned, probably got a big water change, and thought the the drought had finally ended, and it was time to make babies. In the amazon during the dry season, many of them end up dried up in little mud pool, and become breeding grounds for maggots, so even people say they should roam free in the river, unrestricted, but is their life actually better? In this smaller tank, they're fed, and free from predators! Thought for the day

even people in piss poor countries, scanvanging for food, still make babies. its real strange, but according to a. maslow, if our basic needs aren't met, we cannot achieve the next level, so for the pacu what is their heirarchy of needs? maybe reproducing is their ultimate accomplishment without self actualization. sex believe it or not, is a very essential need on the heirarchy of needs!

Its all a matter of perspective, like Jesse said, tempest in a teapot. But I love this debate and love this board, hope I don't offend anyone. We should have a fish meet, debate!

Well, if I write too much, many of you will just take my words out of context and mis-quote me, so I'll end here. Reading does take some time, concentration and comprehension ability.

Ethical or not, is not our place to point fingers honestly, unless you don't eat meat, don't keep pets, dont' use any animal products.

Bottom line is dont buy the fish if you cannot house them correctly. Those fish are not done growing by any stretch of the imagination.Pacu are ery active fish needed quite a bt of room. To try and spin an excuse is insane.

He was mearly looking on the flip side of the debate, not because he agrees with it, but you gotta look at things from a different angle to know more about it.

Wes, you do have some good valid points and you pointed out that the tank is too small for those fish. I see that you are trying to open minds to other issues and that's cool. In keeping fish and animals as pets it's up to us as keepers to provide the best living space, food, conditions etc. The animals soley are dependant on us. It's common sense if a fish or animal can barely swim or turn around in its environment, then it needs a larger home. If you don't understand or see this then like I said, you should not keep animals as pets. Go buy a car or something non living.

And yes, I would rather dry up and die than live in a tiny little compartment my whole life. I also see you taking stabs at my large tank with large preds. Yes, all my fish are large fish and some will outgrow my tank. But for now they have alot of room and swimming space and when that time comes I will move them into a larger tank or sell them or give them away to someone who has a large enough tank for them. Just so you know since you seem so interested and worried. What do you plan on doing with all you monsters in your tank when they outgrow it?
