if u wana raise 1 small oscar, some people will reply by saying you need at least a 180 gallon! but yea.. why doesnt anyone complain about how they raise feeder goldfish? stores raise like 1000 of them in a 20 gallon tank. shouldnt they have the right to live freely and happily like all other fish b4 they are shredded to peices, and get eaten by monster fishies in 500 gallon tanks owned by ''captain planets'' so they can watch the gfish suffer. pls dont flame me =D

The general consensus seems to be that cichlids are more intelligent and are therefore more aware of their surroundings and living conditions than the microscopic brains of a feeder fish.

IMO, the idea is to make your fish happy.

I'm not sure that crowding them makes them happy while I'm absolutely certain that giving them lots of space does.

So, it's up to you to choose. I try to give them as much space as I can. I keep only a few fish as I can't afford the space. Yet I am sure that those I keep are happy. :)

Space = Happy fish.

Any responsible cichlid keeper would look at that tank (especially it being only 12" wide) and know that its not suitable for what the owner has in there regardless of how much water is changed weekly or even daily.
Anybody who attacks other hobbyists who state much needed criticism in this situation should come to terms in realizing that this hobby is not for them because they don't have an understanding that is needed to really succeed in fish keeping

Looks like they can barley turn around...

Don't worry.....The stocking police is here! LOL Good read as far as laughs go. The tri mac looks as good as any I have seen. ....Did anyone read the stuff on the screen after the vid?:popcorn:

for whatever its worth, and I 've said it a couple of times

I am not against what is generally called overstocking most of the times fish look very well and healthy.
Picking a fight with Mod's is not "bad" per se; they also like their argument.
This place would be worth nothing if arguing with Mods was "forbidden ground".

What is stupid is, simply put, to pick fights at all in an internet forum and be agressive.

i agree those fish look healthy but even if they are healthy i hate the look of fish in an empty glass box .

just watched the video to the end . this guy is just out to cause contraversy and get attention.

The general consensus is wrong.

Those fish appear to be healthy, water quality is clear..there is no such thing as overstocking, just under filtering.........

Clear water is not an indication of tank health. You cannot see nitrates, something a filter cannot remove.
