It is not out of the realm of possibilities that the heater caused this. If it did explode I am sure it started to expand first (since its plastic), which would cause the heater to pop out of the suction cup holders. If that is the case, and the heater exploded, it could have most certainly hit the POI as shown in a previous post. As to the above poster, anything hitting glass hard enough will break it, even plastic.

not when there is water in the tank. the viscosity of the water would stop any flying peice from building up enough momentum to break the glass with an impact point. its like trying to throw a ball when you are underwater in a pool. same thing.

now, if the tank was empty sure, but that just corroborates the likely theory that the tank had already broken before the heater exploded.

i nvr said i wanted to sue any1 im not a conartist im a 19yr student who goes to school and my brother isnt the one. he was sleeping like i said i was there at the time of it happening. if u guys are tat stupid to think that my brother would ruin a room in my house thats stupid. im not the first that this happened to. if u search carefully u can find other thats had this happen to them. and on thier threads alot of the ppl say they were lying that, that cant happen, blah blah blah, etc etc etc..

Depends on how far it had to travel. If it was less then an inch or so away from the glass it could have easily had enough momentum. The friction slowing down the object is relative to the distance traveled. That being said if it did indeed expand, building up pressure, a very small distance would have been sufficient to gain enough speed to crack the glass.

Also, don't forget about mass. A baseball would have more drag due to its shape, a thin tube however, could more easily "slice" through the water. Also, density, yes plastic is not very dense relatively speaking, but the internal parts are made up of metal, mostly copper I think? So that would carry more kinetic energy then say a baseball.

I don't pretend to be an expert in any means, just my speculation from what I have learned as a student.

So this happened fast according to you. Your brother was asleep, and fast enough to jump out of bed almost immediately, yell, and get out the door? And he cut his toe. The story isn't matching up. Its easier to just blame marineland.
