TANK CRASH HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Like Miles said could just be your water.. the county might be doing something different to the water

What is the temp of the tank? What did you feed yesterday? do you have city water? Do you check TDS? Almost sounds like embolism...Can you go look in your freezer and describe the texture of the ice in your ice tray for me? Is it crystal clear? Is it solid? Does it crumble?

temp is about 82F. I havent fed for about a week, when they eat I feed them frozen fish, market shrimp, sometimes pellets if they will accept.
Yes I have city water. Sorry, I dont know what TDS stands for. My city water is pretty clear, my ice is more of less crystal clear, some slight fogginess at times. Same with the water straight out of the tap. Ice doesnt really crumble, just kinda clean breaks, some smaller shards or maybe "crumbles" if they drop. I dunno that last one is hard for me to answer.

Thanks for your help.

By crumble, I mean can you take it out of the tray in one piece throughout the whole tray...Have you checked for a stray piece of decaying shrimp?

TDS= Total Disolved solids....

It is either bacteria, parasites, or chloramines. A Python used for water changes can do it too.

Since everything didn't go down hill right after the big water change, it probably isnt' chloramines (everyone should have a test kit on hand reguardless). By the way, what is your ammonia and nitrite readings? What is the pH?

Do not use the salt/temp remedy. It can kill off everything left in the tank. The remedy will help if it is external parasites. It is useless for internal parasites. For bacterial infections, it can precipitate a massive fish kill.

Look for Lifegard All-In-One tablets and treat the whole tank. It is going to be expensive, but when you are this late in the game it is the best thing you can do.

Do not have false hopes for results with Pimafix or Melafix.

Silly question but i am gonna ask anyway. You do use decholorinator, right? if yes, then it is really perplexing.

Hmmm, what about source of food? did you change supplier for your frozen needs? could the food have been contaminated?

Go to LFS and have the water tested.

:confused::confused::confused: Not my LFS......:ROFL::ROFL:

I got sniped by CHOMPERS again.

Alright, something started this, so don't take offense at the questions.

1) First what is the tank chemistry?

2) what did you or someone else do the tank in the last week?

3) How does the water smell?

4) Did you dechlor the W/C water?

5) Are you on city/county water or a well?

6) Check with the water department to see if they have changed or upped the amount of chemicals in the water supply.

7) Are the filters flowing like usual?

8) What is your filter maintenance schedule?

That's enough to start with.

By the way, if there is another death, inspect the fish as soon as possible. Check the gills for damage and flukes. Cut open the body cavity to check for internal parasites or bacterial damage. Bacterial damage is evidenced by watery looking organs or liquified organs.

If you can not find All-In-One, get some Copper Safe and an anti-bacterial med. External parasites can be effectively treated using Copper Safe. This can be used at the same time with the anti-bacterial medication .
