I don't think the tanks in the LFS are long term. You've got a year at the most before you really need a bigger tank, or you sell the fish.

:grinno: I am definately not selling fish planning to grow old with it and pass on the aro to my kids. IF it doesn't die :naughty: before i get to do that ofcourse! At a LFS the owner has owned a Guaramy fish for 38 years and that Guaramy looked SUPER old (I'll take a pic next time for post). In really old logs, books and scrolls people have made note of passing on their aro's to the next generation and so forth.

Do your lights rest on top of your tank? Maybe the heat from them is causing the creaking.

The lights on my 300 do this when I first switch them on and after I switch them off.

if you want your aro to get a darker gold tone, darker red tail then, paint the outter side of the back and bottom black or just buy black vinyl paper and stick it on(thats what i would do since its removable and you can remove it faster than paint) its like that since aros usually darken up in a darker tank and brighten up in a lighter tank, hope this helps for more info on this ask Koji,as Koji would probaby say it would depend on the genes, lighting, and over time it will change

yah my RTG's colors are coming back after him getting use to the tank over the last day or so. But the rtgs colors are not the same as when the tank had pebbles underneath. I did a water change tonight and it was sooo much easier without pebbles. The tank is completly clean cause I net up all the debris on the bottom of the tank. Everyting is crystal clear and clean i think I'm just going to keep it this way since i've asked the lfs about drop eye and it matches what you guys say here that its not about covering the bottom or not. but i will cover the sides with a black board or something for sure.

Thanks for advice and help everyone!

black bottom isnt neccesary but it helps alot, black background imo is most important and GL to you

i taped garbage bags for the sides lol... i was gonna go into the art shop to buy some heavy ply bristal board but thought about how much I've already spent on this tank and fish, so garbage bags will do.

The rule of thumb as you say, is 3 times the length of the fish and the width the same as the fish, so in one year from now your looking a 60 inches long and 20 wide by rule of thumb. The fish hasn't stopped growing either. In one year it'll hit 20 inches my friend.
In the long run for an RTG you should be looking at minimum 60 long 30 wide 24 tall.
You can keep it in a smaller tank if you wish but that's up to you.

I totally can't wait till my rtg grows up to 20" by that time I would have no problems upgrading to a bigger tank. Gonna start putting money aside and start a fish fund =D
