The fact that a big box store, which has it's own rules and policies as to the ordering of livestock, drygoods and supplies, will not order extra/you shrimp has nothing to do with the "ethical" keeping of fish in home aquaria.

it's not only ethics, also fish related stuff that bothers you, read the start of the thread. opinions and venting are what's been going on here since the start, not just ethics.

It's "unethical" for them to not sell you shrimp that they don't have? Or maybe it's just your opinion that a big box store is F'd up for not treating you special? I don't get it.
They order a certain amount. If you're not there when they have them and you don't buy them, tough titties. That's life.

IMO it's wrong to feed your fish possibly parasite infested live foods. Like ghost shrimp that are harvested from open ponds which can be infested with everything from predatory larval insects to roundworms to camallanus. If you'd like to take a chance on any of those go right ahead and complain about not being able to do so.
My point of view is take a negative and turn it into a positive. What does it matter? Why take a chance on your fish? Unless you really don't care all that much about their health anyway.

That's just me.

i'm in the process of breeding convicts for feeders, so i know where my feeders come from. the whole point of a box store is to make money, supply and demand. if they sell out of an item in less than 24 hours, they obviously need to bump there supply a bit. and i do care about my fish, i've had most of them for over a year, with no problems(exluding the week that an ice storm knocked out power, and i drove 4 hours to find a place that didn't sell out of generaters and dropped 800 bucks on a generator) . and i don't recall saying it was unethical that they didn't have shrimp, i was saying it's dumb on there behalf. that's just my opinion though.

he does have a point. it is pretty dumb to be actively NOT making money in a business, where the opportunity is easily availible.
that's just bad business.

That's their problem. They're not gonna stock a few more shrimp every time they order when they can just add another line of rediculously overpirced line of filters to the racks if making some real change was the case.
Some Petsmarts don't even stock ghost shrimp. Do you know the kind of fish they could order that people truly are interested in? But they don't.
On the other hand I don't see anyone running to snatch up their $30 snooks but they have them. Some of the stores I've been to have had them for nearly a year with no takers. Just dead fish. And guess what, when the rest die they'll probably order more.
Why complain? Why point out their flaws? It's big business, it's their business, no matter how retarded. "Regular basis" consumers should know that by now and either really do something about it instead of whining about it or just suck it up. But plenty will continue to beat a dead horse.

its unethical to interupt a man while he is setting up, installing, repairing, cleaning, water changing, reordering, landscaping, feeding, and/or watching his tank/pond.

so, it almost sounds like your agreeing. most chain stores are "jacked up". and that's not a remark on the less knowledgable employees that are just trying to pay some bills. it's not there fault the store has minimal animal requirements(not saying it's o.k to make up **** about fish keeping to sell fish)

sorry, i meant minimal animal knowledge requirements.

it's unethical (and just bad practice) to not QT a new addition to a tank and risk exposing other fish to disease.
