Tank for Frank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank looks great. Can you explain the PVC pipes? My first thought was that you were going with some type of modified in-tank Bean Animal filtration minus overflow boxes, but you had mentioned Ultimas. Are those pipes just uptake and return lines for the Ultimas?

The pipes are for the ultimas just a little tall so I could test fill,I will be shortening them. I think this was a reef tank in it's Prior life. If you look at the picture you can see I have 3 holes I still need to plug. I am(was) going to use ultimas. However, I can not in good faith(and my farm boy fix anything history) pay that kind of price for a pool filter hybrid. I have order 2 Hayward s166t's and am modifying them, I ordered the media and the down tube with the Ultima adaption from Aqua Ultraviolet. If it doesn't work I''ll recoup 75 percent by selling them on craigslist, and i'll buy the ultima 2000s. But, I could not just throw away 1000 dollars without trying a DIY modification.

next we will be getting the backwash water line, fill water line and the 220 volt electrical run up and through the 8 inch cement wall. I was hopping to go though the hollow cement bricks, but the bricks start higher up. We have to jack hammer though solid cement with rebar reinforcements. 3 holes total. Chances are good we are going to hit rebar and need to torch it out.

Damn looking good bro!!!!!

I picked up the intelliflo from Craigslist. I set the max speed to 2200 rpm for back washing. The speed i set for normal filtration is at 1000 rpm using 140watts. This is Intelliflo's claim to fame 90% saving on a standard pool pump, But this made it great for a Large tank set ups as well. I've calculated the flow, "based on charts" to be 30 gallons a minute. That should cycles the tank a little over 3 times an hour. the other pump is from a spa and i use that for water changes, I will be sprinkling the yard and back washing the solids to a garden.
