Thanks guys, Dark bottoms are not the best for marbles in my opinion. They started to get too dark. I will do an update in about a month to compare before and after.

Nice tank and rays.

I am a little worried that the sand stuck to the base will act like sand paper and cause harm to the ray, it could be very abrasive...time will tell.

Why did you move away from a sump to canisters? Surely the sump has lots more room for media and where are your heaters now?

The sand paper thought ran through my mind but it is not the rough to the touch but time will tell. The heaters are in the overflow boxes in the corners. The only reason I went away from the sump was because of humidity. I ran a fan in the stand but I left the wood on the inside raw when I built it and after awhile I started to get some mildew growing. I opted to go with more space and a closed system since I am running a drip.

Yes, the drip takes away the need for massive filters.

I simply run cover glass on my sump, same as the tank and I do not get any evaporation or humidity, I am shocked by the number of sumps sold without covers. My friend recently bought one in the uk and it came without, this could ruin a stand within a few weeks.

I have cut Perspex around where the pipe work exits to stop any extra evap.

Glad the heaters are in the overflows.

I though of the same idea to cover the base of the tank but I assumed it would be abrasive...keep us updated!

I built the sump that was under the stand and did not put a cover on it. It stayed in use for just over 2 years. I built it to fit inside the stand so there was no room for anything else. It is nice to have some room now, that and I think I was just board to and wanted to redesign a filter system.
