tank mates

How many buyers do think in your area will have a tank big enough?
A friend of mine runs an exibit at a zoo with a 10,000 gal Amazon tank, he says at least once per week he has people wanting to "give him" RTCs that they no longer have the ability to take care of, and he can't accept any of them.
A 6 ft tank is a mere puddle for an RTC, and tying to keep them in it is at best, cruel and unusual punishment
;
i am talking about the BGK, not the rtc. the 1700 gallon pond is big enough for the RTC. but i can't add the BGK to it since the RTC will eat it

you have the raphael and senegal in your 55g. why add a BGK, knowing it will outgrow the tank, or the senegalus biting the fins off of it? if i were you, i would aim to get a surface swimmer instead, since the senegal and raphael reside at the bottom, such as butterfly fish/ congo tetras.

ornates would surely get eaten by the RTC. congicus bichirs, unless you manage to find one 30'' above which is rare to obtain, i would not add them to your pond. heck, why add bichirs to your pond? you have large predatory fish like the RTC which would out compete the slow feeding bichirs for food. if i were you i would aim to add in fish that are compatible with RTC, like other catfish such as tiger shovelnose.

maybe you're right. i like BGK since they are the closest things to clown knife fish, which aren't available here. but i will go for other suggestions, fishes which stay small and can be permanently housed in my tank. As for the pond, i will try getting TSNs and stuff like that, but they are very rare here.

I've seen you mention your 1700 gal pond on here several times, but you've also stated in several threads that due to water shortages you keep it half full. So you have a 850 gal pond for the record. Still maybe 12 foot diameter but it only counts as 1700 gallons if you fill it up.

yes i did i mention that months ago. but now i receive goverment water instead of water trucks, so no water shortages now. the pond is full of water

A bichir that size and a cat that size shouldn’t be an issue, but the species of bichir will tell if that will work out long term. If a senegal or del, it should be good but something like an endli would eat the cat.
