Jeff, not to be offensive but I think you charge too much for your fish. From what I know you get your fish from most of the same people everybody else is getting them from and you charge more than all of them. I can get (most) fish from the same stock you get yours from locally without paying for shipping. People always just come to you because you're the biggest supplier for new worlds. I understand you've worked hard at becoming the best in the biz but I still think you charge too much for your fish in comparison to others. I have never personally done business with you, but I do check your stocklist often. It's not that I'm trying to keep people from buying from you, I'm just letting them know there are others out there and when they're spending $120 on two fish it might be a good idea to shop around first.

sorry to the OP for derailing. Jeff if you want to talk to me privately, send me a PM.

Right, so when you are personally asked of your opinion in regards to the price of a particular fish, feel free to respectfully comment with accurate references.
FYI-True festae are not going to be collected from FL ponds. Those are uropthalmus. Festae cannot survive year round in the ponds. Sadly, more hobbyists than not have mistakingly purchased them in their attempt to secure festae. Your other specific reference neither has the species in question, nor imports adult festae from Ecuador.

Please don't assume you would know the source of fish I offer. I import directly from many exporters that certainly are not supplying others with the same fish that I instruct them to collect for me.
I maintain several European contacts with whom I exchange fish to secure species that are not to be found in the US.
I breed a huge number of the fish I offer right here in my facility as a result of exclusive imports of many species.
I take huge risks by importing directly from shippers who've instructed their fisherman to collect in waters not commercially fished in order to fulfill my requests. As you may imagine, I've supported a great many exporters over the past 20+ years. These risks have not always been successful (hence the key word 'risks').

Many vendors offer a mixture of domestically bred or locally purchased fish exclusively. If that works for them, then I am happy for them. My business is far more complex than that. My sales market is worldwide at both wholesale and retail levels. My sources and contacts range far greater and are established in more countries any other cichlid importer/distributor/breeder in the US.

Nobody in any of the threads you've tried dropping little bombs upon has asked you what you think about the price of their fish. In fact, in several instances, you and only you have chimed in, completely off topic, to make a point of bringing up fish price when you read of a potential or completed TUIC fish sale.
Thanks for your generous offer of price comparison, but again, you need to respect others' transactions. They have absolutely nothing to do with you or any constructive commentary you may have to add to previous and future threads.

I don't want to stir more trouble but I remember a couple of instances where Cam talked down about TUIC and the prices. I personally didn't think it was right but didn't want to start a big argument at the time. I've personally done business with Jeff at TUIC on numerous occasions and will continue to do so. The fish are top quality every time and the level of professionalism and service are unparalleled. Another thing, Jeff is by far the best packager of fish that I've ever seen. Cam, why you feel you have the right to say one negative thing about TUIC is beyond me. Especially when you admittedly have never even purchased from there.

EDIT to say, Cam, I don't want to argue or even for you to be upset with me. Normally we're all good but on this one subject, I just don't think it's right. My 2 later.

Well Jeff, thanks for letting me know how you feel about the situation. Maybe next time I won't say anything, maybe I will. I still think $120 is too much for 2 fish. Like I said before, I might advice somebody to shop around. For the record I know the difference between mayans and festae. Festae are not wild to Florida, but that doesn't mean somebody doesn't have any breeders in their stock ponds.

How big is your largest male, mo?

The largest male I have owned was approximately 14"

they will be fine in a 55 for 2 years at least. you dont need a 180g for a 2" fish just because it can potentially grow to 30". tank size is relative to the size if the fish

30"??? Is that with or without a horrible gamma ray accident? I've never seen or heard of Festae that large.

Well said Jeff. You've been supplying quality fish to the hobby for MANY years. You know I'm somewhat biased...but let me point out that price is all relative. I know if I get something from you I don't have to worry about the "buyer beware" label. If their are Festae coming from a Florida pond...I'd like to know where.

if im not correct correct me but i do believe one tank would be more financially efficient than 2. if you cant afford the right size tank now wait till you can. if you buy a smaller tank then youre out that money and have to get another one eventually. i just think it would e easier on your pocketbooks to get a bigger tank for those fish. they will; however, fit in a 75/90 for a while.

:iagree:

bitteraspects your wrong & you still keep posting

i have seen the whole " ill get a bigger tank soon " thing 101 times

lots of my friends keep fish, 1 of them atm has 2 O's 8-9" 1 male FH 5-6" 1 male red devil 5-6" 1 male sajica 6-7" 1 female texas 4-5" 1 ornate birchir 1' 2 plecs 10" a cray fish in a 4'x2'x18".........

:(

not worried about the coast to run 2 tanks i already have 3 tanks running 29g,75g,and a 90g. with 4 60g. soon to be set up my whole time in this hobby i have had between 5 to 10+ tanks, jeff if you check this thread i be leave your price to be fare for a fish thats impossible to get around here. so when every thing is right i will be ordering those fish!

Pricing is all relative to what the customer is willing to pay. Only the customer can decide what the fish is worth to them. For the quality of the fish I think Jeff has great prices.

As for the tank size go with the biggest tank you can atm and if it requires upgrading in the future then that is fine, as long as your serious about the future upgrade. Just make sure to keep up with the water changes and varied diets.

You need a trip to the classifieds. Next time, don't say anything, you've never even purchased from Jeff before.

I'd recommend a 6x1.5 footprint for a pair of festae. You can grow them out in a smaller tank, but as stated, be prepared to upgrade.
