tank size for male midas?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would just leave him in the 90g, some people may say you can skate by with a 55g but you really need a at least 14" wide tank which means 75g.

I will most likely leave him the 90 just thought he is such an amazing fish I wanted him to get more attention. He seems to get the most praise out of all of our fish, the most common question I get is "Is he a deformed goldfish" because of his hump :)

The next time someone asks you that, tell them yeah, it is, and why don't your stick your finger in there while you are at it! LOL! They will get introduced to cichlids MONSTERFISHKEEPERS style!

Good luck with your plans, and when you set up your tank post some pics i'm dying to see it. What do you plan on using for filtration?

well i was thinking something like a hot magnum canister but not 100% yet maybe that and an aquaclear 110 but i want to make sure i get a true midas has anyone ever ordered one from rapps? i was thinking about that

You will want at least 2 AC 500s, one is def not enough lol. If you got for the mag, i would also get the AC, without question.

75 should be fine for single male.Would say 120 or larger for a pair.

I've had family members ask if my RD was a goldfish. anyway, 75 should be fine for a solo male and Rapps always has a great selection of pure midas and RD of varying color morphs and sizes. I've been wanting to get one of the wild caught midas he's had the last month or so but I just don't have the money or tank space right now. they have awesome coloration though. :)
