  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks for the link! sorry if it sounded like i was moaning at you, i wasnt. as i said i will upgrade the tank when i see it ready, i wouldnt house them in it for life

All is well, cheers!

There is nothing as stimulating as a good debate! After reading through this, I find myself thinking.....the 2 fish in question may or may not end up at their possible adult sizes and they both may or may not end up being mellow or with attitude. A 75 COULD hold them both and it may not. I personally would look to a 6' footprint, that being said......I don't have a tank larger than a 75 gal. I am not here as an avid....Oh you have to have a bigger tank....not a bigger, a monster tank! I am just playing devil's advocate and saying "If both fish reach their potential adult size AND both have an attitude problem, a 75 gal would be too close of quarters for peace in the tank".

see thats exactly the responce i would expect here.

yes i know how big oscars get ive owned them before, and i wouldnt consider them a monster fish.

and no i wont come all the way to nebraska to look at 2 oscars in a big tank.

yes i agree the bigger the tank the better i just think some of the options people are given is ridiculous

not a personal dig at you bud8fan just saying that i think sometimes on here people exagerate tank sizings. and if you read up alot of people have said it before me, im merely adding in

Hey, I agree with the whole exaggerating thing. I once said that I had my GT in my 29 and all hell broke loose. Everyone was telling me that they need a 75 gallon. They get 10 inches max usually. A 29 is 12 inches I was like it will be fine. I even said that if he seems to be getting too big I will get a bigger tank.Of course noone believed me and just kept flaming. He is around 6 inches now and is seeming to be a little big, so tonight actually he will be going into the 56. But still a 75 gallon, that is ridiculous in my opinion. People say 1 Oscar should go in a 75, they can get up to 16 inches(in a very long time).I don't see why then a 10 inch GT would have to be even compared to an Oscar, a 55 would be sufficient. But yeah Eläköön, I agree with you, people do exaggerate some times on here with tank sizes.

^^^ lol some guy suggested a 250G for an oscar and a sev alone lol I think maybe he was mistaking the oscar for a mermaid or something lol

I would suggest a minimum of a 75 gal tank for one Oscar and one Sev…

I also often say that “minimum requirements = minimum happiness for both you and the fish”…

I have a 6’ round 300 gal Rubbermaid in which I’ve raised both Oscars and a Severum and I’ve seen both species enjoy the ample space first hand. Years ago, before I had larger tanks, I thought my fish were happy in their smaller tanks. But after seeing them in these larger environments I’ve seen the difference (again, first hand).

But… to suggest that these two fish ‘need’ a 200+ gal tank is simply not true…

A 75Gallon would be fine for a O and Severum, a sevrum rarly ever hits 12" athough a O does it woudnt be 12 for a year and if he hits 14 it will take several years. A 220 for a O and severum IMO is rediulous... I can understand a 120 but 220 is too much.

If you are on about my post about a 220Gal tank would be best ,

180Gal or even better a 220 Gal .

As an Oscar need 75Gals to him self and it also depends on how many Severum's you are having in the tank too .

Read it correctly please , i said it depends on how many Severums he puts in the tank along with an Oscar . He says he wants one Severum and one Oscar but he could end up getting more than one Severum or even a diffrent type of fish to go in with them two .

I do think a 220Gal tank is a little big for just two fish but you have to think about the size of a fully grown fish ( about 12inch for both types ) , what and how much Deco' goes in the tank and if any other fish go in the tank too .

If he sticks with just the two fish then yer a 120 - 180Gal tank would be a good size IMO .

So with this manner of thinking people should build tanks that are thousands of gallons? because you never know you may end up wanting a dolphin. :wall:
