Tank Size for Severum and Oscar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
this threads turning rally debatial now!

the person on the last page who agreed with what i said, and had a GT in a 29gal
your exactly the type of person that makes up an average.
we get fish that may outgrow our tank, but we have the decency to upgrade when the need be. i think if people will upgrade don't hassel them. i kept a florida gar in a 4' tank for a few months just cause it was a fascinating (and small then) creature and when it was starting to get bigger the lfs took it back.
and im not sure why my part of the post about my mayan havent came back up but it was a 12" fish in a 80gal which is 18" wide and it just laid there bored most of the day. it had too much room and it was just a lazy fish. it looked empty

If your going 220, i'd do 2 oscars, 2-3 severums, some redhooks, a pleco, and some raphel cats... The true severum monster tank!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS

I wish I could have found Red Hooks.

What a fun thread.

Oscars get around a foot or so as adults, so I don't see why people think a 12 inch wide tank is adequate.

that mayan sounds like it had no personality.

Beause the little card at Petsmart/Petco says they need at least a 30 gallon tank. :naughty:

I agree, but only one person suggested that, that I saw.

Dont forget how quickly Oscars grow.. There wont be much time to upgrade if you start with a 55 and they DONT get along...

55 gallon for an Oscar and a Severum is just stupid!! I might buy a 75 gallon but 55 for both-no way Oscars do produce an awful lot of waste.
It all depends on the fish and the person who is taking care of them.
Terd Ferguson has all sorts of crazy fish in his tank and on paper it shouldn't work-However, he keeps a close eye on his tank and takes good care of his fish-so his tank is awesome. Just be prepared for problems if they occur cause Oscars are funny fish-I had one that got punked by a Betta-my brother had one that ruled his tank that had RD and Jags in it.

I could find them in my neck of the woods. There really not that hard to find or hard to come by. Keep looking and you might find some!
