:iagree: it will help with the film on the top. Depending on what caused the film, it could smell pretty bad.

IMO when the bubbles does not pops in less than 5 secs i believe it is a ammonia spike. have you test your water already? Also bad smell comes from ammonia spike too..

Man, from your post I think your pretty lucky the smell isn`t coming from a bunch of dead fish.
If it were me, I would be busy with water changes and daily testing for ammonia and nitrites.
A bit of media from an established tank does not a cycle make.
Using a UGF and not cleaning the gravel will turn that into a nitrate factory even if it is run, reverse flow.
You can do some gravel cleaning and not kill off all your growing BB, it will just grow somewhere else.
Light feeding, allot of water changes with some vacuum action on that gravel would be my routine if your tank showed up in my house in the condition and history you described.

Punctuation is free. Please use it. And the spelling checker is that ABC button in the upper right corner of the post page. It is free too.

The reason it seems that no one is properly reading your posts is because they aren't. They can't. Your writing is a mess. Please be courteous and help us to understand what you are trying to say. It doesn't take any extra time to drop in a period at the end of a sentence and it only takes a few moments to run the spelling checker.

Active carbon definitely helps. Add some to your filter.

That's really hard to read without any punctuation.

i changed the carbon 2 times this month and it holds about 2 pounds of it

This a period-> . You use it at the end of a complete thought, such as:
The fish jumped out of the tank.

it is really hard to read a complete paragraph without puncuation spelling capitalization proper grammar and so forth because no one can understand what you are saying and it annoys the beejeezus out of everyone and we are trying to help you with your fish and trying to understand what is going on in your tank but if we cant understand what you are typing we cant even begin to help you because of how tiring and how much time it takes to read your thoughts and its already hard to get the complete picture without being there with you your lucky anyone has replied at all :grinno:

Your tank smells because of Massivore, thats practically the end of the thread.
Now your tank is terribly Overstocked regardless of filtration, you need a 180gal minimum for an adult Ornate Bichir and I have no idea about Dats....And a API Ammonia and Nitrate liquid test will work best

Yup, Ive heard from lots of people, Massivore stinks. I stay away from it cause it's expensive as @#*$%!

Dude...
Nothing in my post was hostile.
