tankmate for an oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tank would have approx. 800 gph filtration. It does not matter to me if it is a cichlid or not, however I would like the fish to have a different body shape than the oscar. I thank all of you for your input.

I have successfuly mixed oscars with:
large catfish eg shovelnose, girrafe cat.
Cichlids: synspilum, jaguar, pearsii, convict.
others that may work are bay snooks, peackock bass, pike cichlids.

You generaly want to avoid the real big nastys such as devil, umbee and terrors.

The best tankmate for an oscar is another oscar as they tend to get on ok

I just got a Long Tailed Albino Tiger Oscar .... I have never seen or even heard of one b4 I saw him in lil fish store .... any ever have one?

Depends on the tank size....I have two O's in my 135gal along with Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, convict, blackbelt and it works great....

I would like some opinions on a tankmate for an oscar. I would like a fish that will grow to a length of 10 to 16 inches, that is preditory, but not so aggressive that it will attack the oscar. I appreciate your input.

Red Terror or Jack Dempsy get my votes

I had Jacks, Shovelnosed, Severums and plecos with oscars
I heard you could put Green terrors also

Make sure the size are all almost the same..:)
