tankmate for an oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Severums (Heros severus), Jack Dempseys, Heros / Cichlosoma cichlids, knife fish spotted gar, claris catfish I have kept all of these with Oscars the jack did beat him up but after every one found there place in the tank no problem but this is all depends on how big your tank is the bigger the better put these sort of fish in a confined area causes carnage!!!!!!!!!!

My jd gets along fine with my oscars. try some convicts, and a green terror. Make sure the oscar is the biggest in the tank because they aren't too aggressive and can tend to get bullied. frontosa's would be a good bet. G/L and happy M/F keeping.

The tank would have approx. 800 gph filtration. It does not matter to me if it is a cichlid or not, however I would like the fish to have a different body shape than the oscar. I thank all of you for your input.
If you are looking for differing body shape tank mate, Bichers might be a good choice.

They are very predatory and hardy and most species grow to a length of about 14-16".

They are not picky with food and very hardy.... they grow pretty fast too....

I used to keep a Seneglus bicher with 2 Oscars and it did a good job of clearing up the scraps of foos from those 2 messy eaters.

As bichers are bottom dwellers, it would not invade much space with your Oscars... just have to provide more food as bichers tend to be heavy eaters.

my two-cents worth.. ;)

I'd get a really nice Green Terror like this one.

They are hardy, great looking and not too overly aggressive.(though some can be)

If you live where snakeheads are LEGAL I'd actually go with a snakehead. I know it sounds crazy but snakeheads get along with O's very well. If you live where their ILLEGAL I'd go with a silver aro, GT, or pike cichlid.

in a 75g? wow with an oscar i'd prolly go with a convict or severum, or firemouth. cant put another 14 incher in a 75 i wouldnt anyways
