The OP as been advise on the fish, tank mates and tank size it should be in, he has clearly made it understood it is his fish, not a fish, he made it clear he is a fish owner, not a fish keeper. that being said he will do as he wishes with "his' fish. advise given, opinions given. what he does now is up to him and none to say dif.

We are just trying to save you and the fish problems. No, it won't reach near max size in most cases because most people don't give them the proper room. Or if you decide you want something else and sell it, as many do once in a while you won't see it reach such size. Large cichlids have been known to break tanks just by glass banging.

If you do keep it it would be fine in there for a bit, but you should look to trade down the road for a smaller one. It'll save you grief in the long run. If this many people are insisting that this is the case while only a couple people have supported it that should be a sign

It is sad when other people have to resort to this type of bickering in this hobby. Koltsixx is absolutely correct and justified when he asks that everyone be civil when voicing their opinions. I highly doubt that the opposers of the OP have not made this same mistake at some point in time of their fish keeping. Is negativity and hatred the way you promote the hobby you all truly love?

i had my male in a 90 gallon growout until he was about 9 or 10 inches. Could not keep a pleco with him. i then upgraded to a 180 and he had a huge growth spurt. The only thing i can keep with him is a female dovii. I even tried a huge 14 inch pleco and they would not tolerate it. My male looks perfectly happy in my 180, but then i look at the fish from the side and i see hes almost as wide as the tank, its a whole different perspective looking at the fish from the side of the tank and realizing they wont be able to turn around in a couple of months. I'm planning on upgrading to a 300 in the future, a 120 is definantly too small for a male dovii thats for sure. When i was i a kid a 55 was huge, but then again i owned goldfish back then, now with bigger and more faster moving fish bigger tanks are a must

Jeez! I didn't want to start all this mayhem!? I apologize. Yea, he'll stay in the 90 for now. I've always wanted a 120 g. its just gonna be tough sneaking it past the lady. Like I said, I've had other large cichlids before, even some large cat's. Had them in 55's and 65's though, I just figured my 90 would be cool for a while until he grows, only had him for a month now. I'll try and get some pics up this week sometime. It was never my intention to get some of you at each others throats like this, kinda sounds like something Dovii's do.......

this thread needs a :chillpill: if dude wants to mistreat his fish...... why waste your time on it? he's had plenty of opportunity to take good advice, hopefully he will

+1

I'm being honest. no mistreating happening here. Lee, you're missing the fact my Dovvi is technically still a juvi, and at 8 to 9" in length a 90 g. is perfectly fine for him.....for now..... If it were a 9" JD, in a 90? I highly doubt some of you would question it, then again maybe you would just to stir things up It's real easy to criticize via forums. I seriously wonder sometimes if 90% of you are being honest in the size tanks you actually have, or the fish you claim to own for that matter. Again thanx for your info, and help. I've been on a few other forums before, and that whole " your tank is too small!" kinda gets old pretty quickly. He is my fish, he's in a 90, eating and swimming all over the tank and he looks good! That's all that really matters for now. I'll at least take the advice of keeping him alone....for now. Thanx again for your time guys, and gals...Later- Matt.

I am sorry, I am not looking to belittle you or criticize. just stating the facts as the numbers add up. :)
