Very true! I have been hung up trying to think of pickerel tankmates, when the truth is pickerel themselves are their own best tankmates.

I wanted to keep it by itself at first but my mom has been bothering that I have this "big" tank (I don't think 150 galllons is enough to tell you the truth) and I'm only going to keep one fish in it. Would Hornyhead Chubs Nocomis biguttatus work if I had to get tank mates for it? How many could I get?

This is my tank with my two redfins. I like the look of the tank with just the two of them but maybe the chubs would work to.

Tank looks nice. I have a similar setup as you have probably read in the past. My two chain pickerel are in a 210. I have a couple perch and small bullhead in the tank and it works out well. The fish are kind of "layered". Bullhead are usually hiding or plodding along among the logs etc... The perch tend to rest on the bottom in full view or cruise through the obstacles. The pickerel suspend from the middle on up.

Do you know where that redfin came from?

It has a touch of red in it's anal fin (which I see in the local Grass pickerel).

I'm curious sinch it has almost no red in it's fins.

Here is what I mean about the fish being "layered".........also noteworthy that some fish like the pickerel are "territorial" but mine tend to huddle together all day like your redfins do.

There's a pond by one of my freinds houses (pirahnafreak13) has this pond by his house and there are grass pickerels in it and there really hard to catch (I've goten closer than anyone catching them, the little dork was in the net) and you can't use hookes either because they are so small (2-3").

Alright. My fish were in good health and the owner is a very nice guy. They were out of 1.5in to 3 in redfins when i ordered, so he gave me the bigger size redfins for the same price. I highly recommend them.
