Tat has a disease!!!! NEED HELP ASAP

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use this thread to ask any experts(eg Vemptrev) a question on Armatus.
One of my Armatus have markings like a very thin line cracks just below the dorsal fin. 4-5 very thin lines about 0.5cm in lenth and vertically and parallel to each other.

Is it a disease, due to bad water conditions or knocks into something?

This hobby will get very tiring for you if you keep getting fish that you can't house for life and end up killing. I can promise you that. It's much more pleasurable if you have a nice fish tank that you don't have to worry about what you need to upgrade to in 6 months and then another upgrade in a year. Get the tank first then the fish that way you can watch it grow and be happy and not stressed out about upgrade which 9 times out of 10 never happen.

you don't need a permit no, but you need to work within the means of what you have. A store near me jsut got in some Wallago Leeri but you don't see me rushing down there to buy them. Yes they are 12" and yes some time down the line i could have a 2000g pond in the future but I won't be buying them. I have just got my 320g and I am now considering a trio of the smaller P bass species but a 320g could still be too small by some peoples definition.

if you can get a 150g then do so before hand if you want to keep something bigger. Otherwise, with a 55g there are loads of things you could try. If you must have predatory, Cynodon Gibbus are very similar to Tats but only grow to 6-8" and would probably be ok in a 55g. A crazy shoal of Exodons is another option but there are lots of other things out there.

The hobby get's tiring when you can never get the fish you want either because of state laws or how informative your lfs is and mine did not know what a Tat was.

I bet it does but fortunately for you there is this forum as well as others to ask questions from people who have been in your shoes and can give you good recommendations. I did not have that when I was your age but it's also unfortunate because you see all these really neat fish that you probably would never see if you weren't on here. Do a little research find a fish that you can house for life and be happy. And don't take Cichla Dude's recommendation and get a flagtail because that fish will out grow a 55 as well.
