Have any of you who dream of breeding smaller species of rays looked into breeding the red form of reticulata from Colombia. Whenever I have had them the males were fully Mature by 6 inches. I know alot of people are drawn to Hystrix now that there is a ban but I think these may be a good replacement since they mature sexually at such a young age.

Where do you get them? I have never seen the red form

alex at fish room plus had them and so did somebody else on here

they are available from time to time under various names. If the dealers uses RED in the name and they come from colombia,,, You can usually be sure its the red reticulata.

they call em

red schroederi
red caqueta

there was a store by me with them.... they are nice maybe one day ill get a pair but chasing down more exotics now

don't know any thing about them, but a lfd has two that are about 7"+
they supposably mated and she hand three sill born
i think she was preg on arrival and they also called them a flower ray
they were impressive, but they wanted $800 for the pair (no thanks)

These were about 10"

ive seen some here too, that were called flower reticulata. he wanted way too much for them. great for guys that cant keep a huge tank.

Yup the pics FRP posted are the rays I was referring too. Im not trying to be rude but I would bet money they are smaller than 10 inches on a ruler and if you look close you will see the males have FULLY rolled claspers very capable of breeding.

what kind of styro is that FRP a standard 18 inch sq outside measurement? or a florida styro? 17 inch outside?

Its not very often u see an 8 inch ray with fully rolled claspers. I personally didnt like the way these particular rays would arrive from colombia. Usually skinny but they may be worth a shot for someone who wants a shot at breeding smaller species. a nice pair shouldnt cost more than 400 ish imo
