The more serious question is how long can you keep it alive. Most rays sold under teacup are retics and usually do not live more than a month. If you get one to live past that amount of time then they can get over a foot wide.
Teacup is a common name used for several rays in the trade
Check out the sticky section under species profiles. These three rays are possible, once you have identified the ray in question you can get an idea of max size
Most likely to least
Retic
motoro
hystrix
Good luck and do your research and you won't regret getting one![]()

Ive reaserched about rays but trying to find one that I can keep. I know motoros get about 18" witch is to big for me right now. I Never researched a retic and a hystrix might work if they stay around 15" full grow

i own 3 retics atm... they do not have the more exotic patterning, are usually emmaciated, but i am in love. they are also the cheapest upfront. female motoros get bigger then a trash can lid. i picked retics as a first ray, because they stay smaller, readily available, and are notoriousely hard to keep though not in my experiance.
