Dang that really suxs! Hope You get him back in good condition.

WOW! I can only imagine what you're going through. I hope you get that stunning fish back! I'd scoop him up for that price! I don't blame the buyer, but it is still completely wrong of the employee. I do not know what would make them think A) it is ok to sell a display fish B) sell a 9" fish at the 2" price C) clearly did not ask anyone higher up what to do.

If some a store gave some guy my name and the guy called me after tracking me down on the Internet, demanding "his" fish back, I can't say I'd be a happy camper

maybe I'm jaded by fish club prices but $15 for a red devil isn't totally out of line.

What if the fish died or jumped out at the lfs? Stuff happens unfortunately

I hear what your saying, but remember it's not a fish club it's a retail store so $15 for that fish is obserd and I didn't contact the guy, the owner of the store is going to contact him and I think the guy is a customer the owner is familiar with. If somthing happened to him at the store that's the risk I take for asking him to watch him for me. Honestly, being sold was not one of my worries, I didn't see that coming. If he died or jumped I would be upset but not as upset as finding out some kid sold him. So yes, "stuff" happens, doesn't make it any more paletable unfortunately.

Sorry to hear of your predicament and I know this doesn't help any, but doesn't everyone keep open spare tanks or tubs. A back up plan is needed, you never know when a tank is going to spring a leak. I guess having a buddy with a LFS in your back up plan. Anyhow good luck on getting your "psycho" back.

Good news, I just gat a call from my friend with the LFS and he called the guy and is going to pick him up. He said once he explained what happend the guy was very understanding, my friend is going to get him another fish though probebly not another RD. Turns out the guy who bought him liked the way he looked but didn't know anything about RD's and figured he was about the same size as his Oscar so they would get along. So he put my RD in a 90 gal with an Oscar that has been pinned into the upper corner of his tank all day! So it looks like this will have happy ending, for everybody.

As far as a back up plan goes I only have a 30 and 20 gal sitting around and since my buddy has a fish store I thought that would be a better alturnative, live and learn but at least he'll be home on Tuesday in a brand new 90 all to himself.

glad to hear the guy who bought the fish was cool about it, but once it was explained, I'd like to think most people would react the same way (tho' I know that's not really the case)

seems to me the only person who was out of line here was the salesman at the LFS . . . totally irresponsible . . .

yeah that sucks but thats great that you are getting him back, looks like that oscar is going to be happy as well haha, the guy was probably so understanding because he knew psycho was going to kill his oscar lol. but yeah have no clue what that salesman was thinking i mean anytime a customer asks about a special fish in the display or getting something for a price other than what is marked exactly on the tank the new person is supposed to ask someone higher up what is ok or not, cant believe he sold your fish out of the display tank
