glad to hear that you will get him back.
.....
but the newbie sales-man is really newbie to buy from the display tank ...
and u have a very nice luck that the temporary owner accept and understand the issue anyway cong. about his back ...

Thank's everyone, I guess I learned an important lesson. I'm going to see if I can repair the leak in the 75 and then put it away for an emergency. If I can't fix it I'll look around for a cheap back up. I wouln't let somthing like this happen again, but honestly I never anticapated this. I talked to buddy a little while ago who feels like crap so I'm going to beat a dead horse and he said he isn't going to fire the kid but will have a meeting with the staff and discuss protocol, sales and pricing among other things. The kid can only work now while my buddy is in the store.

I like to keep things in perspective and relize it's a fish we're talking about here and I would have gotten over it, in the grand skeem of things there are far worst things that can happen. As far as the hobby goes we put a lot of time and effort into these things and when you come across a fish you really like you get attached.

thats great, and yeah definitely wouldnt want the kid to lose his job over it but he def needs a talking to haha so thats good that your friend is taking it seriously and having a talk with his staff about it. and if the leak in your 75, is at the edges due to silicon coming off then there shouldnt be any problem fixing it, main thing is the PITA it is to get the old silicon off lol

I am still missing something here!

First off, congratulations on getting your pet back! That was a horrendous blunder by the LFS employee(s) involved that it is totally incomprehensible!!!!

Something is as "fishy" (pardon the pun) as heck going on here. Not a snowflake chance in Hades that some kid that is a new employee at this LFS is working solo. Chances are that there was management/ supervisory level or at least senior experienced co-workers on site during the sale. If a brand new employee is running the LFS solo, then IMO it is not the new employees fault. It is your BUDDIES fault for GROSS MIS-MANAGEMENT!!!!!!!

I would think that the "new" employee would certainly have deferred the pricing question to their superior(s) with one MAJOR exception.

IMO the "kid"/ new employee "knew" the "customer" who purchased your RD and very intentionally made the sale under the radar of store management. This B.S. that happened to you was no accident! If the "kid" really was "acting on their own" then they are utterly retarded for NOT making the sale "under the table" and leaving a "legal" electronic paper trail of the sale to be easily tracked.

Either way, you buddy that "owns" this LFS has bigger problems than just your "incident". He/ She is being robbed and absolutely require better management in his/ her business!

You are extremely "lucky" that the "customer" that purchased you fish at this "steal price" was gracious enough to just "give it back"! You have to "TRY" to put yourself in their situation:

Supposing that this WAS on the up and up caused by a single new rogue employee, the customer is 100% free of ANY WRONG DOING! Why should they "the honest customer" be the ONLY ONE made to pay for the horrible injustice that was done to you (AND NOT BY THEM!!)? Getting your $15 back does NOT COVER THE "EXCHANGE". They may have driven many miles each direction and invested several hours of their time on this trip. I would not give a rat’s rectum about the Owners/ Managers inability to properly staff their store. That is 1000% not my frickin' problem.

I would be all about you getting your pet back that was erroneously sold to me. I would NOT however be willing to take ANY loss as an innocent in the matter. The LFS ABSOLUTELY must swallow the loss.

I am not a RD fan and know nothing about them, but if I purchased a 9" RD for $15 and the going rate for that fish is say $100 then I guaran-***-tee that I am going to want at minimum, $100 for the fish back, or a fish of MY CHOOSING which retails at the $100.

I was with ya until this point. How do you expect a store of any kid to reimburse you $100 worth of credit if you payed only $15 for a steal buy? Ultimatly the fish is worth what the store prices it at, regardless how much it is worth somewhere else. No store is going to give you a $100 credit even if they sold you a fish worth that much for $15. Their going to congradulate you on your purchase and send you on your way.

Yeah, the more I think about it the more I'm thinking somthing "fishy" was going on and I think my buddy feels the same way although he's not coming out and saying it. It's tough when you own a small bussiness and can't be there 100% of the time. If this wasn't my fish it might have gone unnoticed and that's the bigger problem for him. I'm fortunate I'm getting him back and partially do to the fact he would have killed the O I'm sure. But Scott is right no store is going to reemburse you more than you paid for the fish but I think my friend is going to take care of the guy which should put this whole thing to bed. Like I said before all I want is my fish back after that I have nothing to do with it. What ever goes on is between them.

Now, I think even talking about getting fired over the ordeal is a little unfair, especially since nothing was labelled, I'm sure he won't do that again. I can't see a "Display fish not for sale" label hurting. However..

Turns out the guy who bought him liked the way he looked but didn't know anything about RD's and figured he was about the same size as his Oscar so they would get along.

This does make me wonder about the LFS's practices though. Keeping your RD in a display tank where it's knocking off other fish is not adequate housing, regardless of how you look at it. I know he's just doing you a temporary favour, but I'm sure something else could have been arranged. Secondly, it should have been the employees job to facilitate at least some exchange of information such as tank size/aggression issues/appropriate tankmates to the customer. It's ultimately the customers fault for not researching, but a little information can go a long way, especially in this case where the whole exchange is clearly an impulse buy, on a large, brutal, Central American Cichlid. If there is one thing the employee needs a reprimand for, it's this. If I was that customer, purchased a fish I knew nothing about without any advice from the store employee, and then they tracked me down from my credit card information and asked for it back, I certainly wouldn't be shopping there again.

When it all comes down to it though, it's a good thing everything did 'work out', you're a lucky man. Hopefully the setup of your replacement tank completes without any further drama.

Sorry to take the alternate view of this than blaming the new guy but come on folks: stores aren't in the business of storing other people's fish for free. They're in the business of selling fish and supplies...which is what this guy did...

Should store employees have to track down a manager and ask whether a fish is being stored for someone before they're sold?

Did your buddy ask the owner of the store whether it was OK to house / care for your fish until you fixed your tank?

Were you planning to compensate the store for the food / overhead / labor?

Were you planning to compensate the store for the fish that your fish killed while it was in their care?

The wholesale price for a red devil that size can't be much more than $15 (probably less). Subtract the costs of caring for it...and the fish that it killed...and they're in the hole.

Glad it worked out...but come on folks!

Matt
